Good evening house. I'm currently learning Python and Machine Learning. I plan to buy a laptop that will enhance my learning. My budget is between 200k and 220k. Someone told me to go for core i5 and above but the price of the new one is beyond my budget. My intention is to buy new one. Is it advisable to go for the UK used core i5 or buy new core i3. Don't only focus on whether it's core i3 or core i9. Focus on the specific generation of whatever processor. A 13th gen core i3 is on the same level as a 9th gen core i7 and an 8th gen core i9. It even beats then in some aspects.

Other considerations:
Go with an SSD if you can
A dedicated gpu might be too expensive for your current budget but it's something to consider for the future since you're into ML

Okay. But one last question: 2011 Macbook pro is currently old and updates for it are no longer available, but can it still serve or do I need to upgrade to something within 2013-2015?

The minimum MacBook pro with Metal is the Mid-2012 unibody. They look the same like other unibodies but they have a different board.

If buying, dont go for less than mid 2012.

Remember, mid and not early.

Apple products are a different ball game entirely o.

My current ‘workhorse’ is a 2015 MBP.

For web and mobile apps development, it does the job, gives me a good retina screen and the quality of the hardware is second to none at that price point.

If i would be touching something for 10 hours everyday, it should be a quality device and not some cheap plastic.

There is Dortania’s Open Core Legacy Patcher support for old macs. It is open sourced.

This allows for installation of current Mac Os.

My 2015 MBP currently runs the latest Ventura. Apple supports up to Monterey for it.
