My Bitter Job Hunting Experience Yesterday. by 9jagovernor: 4:27pm On May 19, 2023
In what seems to be an opportunity for me to secure a better job turned to a bitter experience for me.

I saw an advert of a job opening from a recruiting agency on may 2nd and I applied, by may 17th I received a mail telling me to come for interview the next day at Anthony in Lagos whereas I live in Ogun state.

I checked my pocket and I was sad cos the money I saw won't even be able to transport me to interchange on the expressway. So I result to borrowing transport fare and think of what excuse I'll take from my place of work.
Reason I wanted a change of work is because it's a job I'm just doing not be be idle at home cos I've not been able to save anything from it for the past 2 and half months as I'm been paid a meager salary. I'm only able to save money for food and transportation.

I borrowed 3k from a friend and set to journey to Lagos on Thursday, as soon as we got to long bridge heading to berger, we found ourselves in this regular massive hold up leading all the way to Berger bustop.

The interview was set at 10 am and it was already 8am and I'm still trapped in traffic, I saw people jumping on bike and I tried reasoning them too, I was told it's 1k to berger. I got no choice than to speak to my leg. I couldn't believe I could trek all the way from long bridge to Otedola bridge after Berger all because I couldn't afford to board a bike and so as to be able to make it to the interview on time.

Another dilemma set it when I wanted to board bus to Anthony from otedola bridge after Berger and conductors were shouting Oshodi 500, Abiola garden 300, Secretariat 300, 7up 300, Mile-2 1000, I was just dumbfounded and didn't know what else to do. When I found out that those driver's won't reduce their price I had no other option than to board a bus going to Anthony like that at the rate of 500.
Arriving at the venue, it wasn't hard to locate, I met some other candidates too and others joined later.
Shortly after, a man came and introduced himself and ushered us into another location where there were chairs and tables already arranged.
To cut the long story short, we were given questions to answer in a sheet of paper and thereafter called one by one for oral interview with a woman (the boss).

Some people came out shortly after going in and some were given form to fill of which I later discovered to be Employment form and guarantor form. I was praying I should be given too.
It was finally my turn and the woman asked series of questions of which I responded well to but after everything I wasn't given any form to fill. I was so sad and devastated.
I left the premises feeling bad, angry and depressed.... I began reminiscing about my life, at another failure. I started walking aimlessly from Anthony down to Oworo on the highway, I hadn't eaten anything that day but I lost appetite, I didn't even know what else to do.

I had attended some interviews in Lagos few times without success and failing this also made me shed hot tears as I was walking aimlessly yesterday.

I got home and all my body was aching me especially my legs coupled with a serious headache, I couldn't sleep well last night.
just remembering the whole thing made me cry. I cried to bed last night cos I'm just fed up.
I am aging, most of my mates are doing well for themselves with better paying jobs and here I am without a good source of income and no savings.
It's really tiring and frustrating at the same time. Don't know what else to do.
Even if I'm to to start a business,I will still need capital so I have to work first.

Pls If God lay it on your heart to help me with a good paying job, I will be more glad, I just need to get out of this my present situation. I'm tired. I do feel depressed thinking about my life. cry

But i can't attend an interview for a 9-5 job where you'll be paid peanuts and treated worst than an animal.
Say what you may about yahoo but it has afford a lot of youth lives that we couldn't have dreamed of.
I rather live well and damn the consequences than live in poverty and complaining about a situation that will never change. cool

I could feel your pain. I was at the interview too. After being interviewed by the woman, she said they will get back to me if I'm shortlisted. I said okay ma. I was already out of the compound when the guy that was coordinating the interview called me back, after which an employment form was given to me, together with two guarantor's forms. I was told to submit them latest by next week Monday.

its not too late for you to go into real estate, its a lucrative job in Lagos, and i have to add that if you are attractive, honnest and kind ,it would be a bonus,i am not in lagos anymore, but i assure you that thats one way to make it big and fast in lagos, but be careful of those alajahs and big women, they can get you clients but you may be the bill, real estate job would challenge you but if you are smart and tactical you would hit big in no time.i hope this advice would come in handy to other people too, good luck.

there are lots of job opportunity in real estate in Lagos, lots of coporations looking for a smart or attractive intelligent agen/clerk to work with, most are even desperate, lagos is fast developing and new Job opportunity springs out every now and then which makes it necessary for people to relocate from one place to another within its vicinity, this gives a boost to the real estate sector, the most thriving real estate zone is mainland zone which was were i work before leaving, there ara many companies you can search for him to work with in Lagos online, the only downside with most is that you work for commission and not salaries so ,the agent must not be lazy, should be very calculative and tactical in dealings to save time and deliver big. then when i worked at mainland the average deals i seal in a week is 3 deals in one week,i get my clients what they want not what my boss tells me to show them, sometimes some properties are not for certain clients and you cant take certain clients to certain locations because its bad reputation for your office and the business.well if you want your brother to be a real estate agent in Lagos he better not be slow on his feet.but he would definitely get hired.it just to link the right client with the right property that all
you may call this man if you are interested back then he wanted me to work for him,he may link him up with other companies 07063001623,07059964878 mr prince bolaji, just tell him Lawrence forma Okisco agent staff gave you his contact, there is a great chance he could help you out

I have Bs.c in Computer science (2.1).
I am being paid 45k with almost everything going into transport and food.

I believe a well well paying job for a 29 yr old like me should be something 100k and above

That's unfair guy.
Like the other person said, people type numbers in that manner for privacy purposes. If he had typed in the usual format and you or anyone quoted his message, his phone details will be stuck on nairaland forever even if he modifies it. And anyone that searches for his number on Google will always be directed to this thread where he's begging for a job except the thread is deleted.

If you really wanted to help him previously, I don't think the format of his phone number is a good reason not to.

God bless you sir. I think he forget that internet never forgets
