In Diablo 4, damage buckets refer to different categories or factors that contribute to your overall damage equation. Some factors add up together, forming a single bucket, while others multiply across each other. Let's delve into some of the key damage buckets and their importance.

Weapon Damage
This is a standalone bucket that represents the damage to your weapon. If you can increase your weapon damage through various means, it directly adds to your overall damage output when multiplied by the skill you're using.

Damage While
Any damage modifier that includes the word "while" tends to be clumped together in its own bucket. Examples include damage while healthy, damage while berserking, or damage with specific skills. These modifiers work together and contribute to your overall damage when multiplied with other factors.

Resource Generation
Unlike many other ARPGs, Diablo 4 requires players to alternate between generating and spending resources. Increasing your resource generation is essential as it allows you to use your high-damage skills more frequently. Attack speed also falls into this bucket as it speeds up resource generation and the rate at which you can use certain skills.

Overpower
The exact role of Overpower in the damage equation is still uncertain. It could either be added at the beginning as a strong additive to your base damage or function as another multiplier. Further exploration is needed to determine its impact.

Vulnerable Damage
Damage to vulnerable enemies, typically found on weapons as an implicit modifier, has its own separate bucket. This doesn't include damage modifiers against specific enemy types, which belong to another bucket.

Damage To/Too
Any damage modifier that includes "to" or "too" (e.g., damage to Elites, damage to burning enemies) falls into this bucket. Accumulating more of these modifiers becomes slightly less effective over time.

Class-Specific Buckets
Each class has its own specific bucket, such as minion damage for necromancers or damage after dodging for rogues. These modifiers are unique to the respective classes and have their own impact on damage output.

Main Stat
Depending on your class, your main stat (e.g., strength for barbarians) grants you a damage multiplier. For every 10 points in your main stat, you gain a 1% damage increase. This encourages stacking more of your main stat to amplify your damage.

Understanding these damage buckets allows you to optimize your build and prioritize certain modifiers. For example, focusing on resource generation early on is crucial to overcome resource limitations and maximizing your DPS potential. As you progress to the endgame, eliminating the need for resource-generating skills becomes a goal for many builds.

Additionally, the Paragon board presents a balancing act between stacking main stats and spreading points across multiple stats. Skill damage also plays a role, as leveling up skills and acquiring items that increase skill levels provide additional multipliers.

In conclusion, damage buckets are an essential concept to grasp in Diablo 4. While some modifiers add up together, others multiply across each other. Understanding the nuances of each bucket and how they interact allows you to fine-tune your build for optimal damage output.
