The Edo State Government has warned petrol dealers against hoarding of petroleum products, with a view to creating artificial scarcity and hiking of prices of the products.

It was reliably gathered that following the pronouncement by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the subsidy paid by the federal government on imported petroleum products would cease henceforth, many petrol dealers in the state stopped sales of the product, with a view to hiking prices.

The government, in a statement by Osaigbovo Iyoha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, warned that any petrol station caught hoarding products would lead to revocation of its landed property.

“The attention of Edo State Government has been drawn to the unscrupulous attempt by petrol dealers in the state to hoard fuel and create artificial scarcity and price hike.

“As a responsible government that cares for her citizens, we shall resist this economic sabotage by every legal means possible.

“To this end, all petrol stations are ordered to immediately resume sales of the products to Edo people or risk immediate closure, and possible revocation of their property to enable others who want to do legitimate and respectful business in Edo State come and invest,” the statement said.It added that the government cannot continue to allow extortion of Edo people in whatever guise, warning that “a word is enough for the wise.”

Yesterday Edo stations were empty begging cars to enter and buy fuel. Immediately after inauguration, they all closed their stations. ALL OF THEM. Disgraceful. Stations were selling fuel freely in Ibadan.

Buhari removed subsidy. House of Assembly has signed the budget and it is not in Junes budget. It is not going to get paid.

Tinubu reiterated that it's gone. The marketers are aware, since last year. National assembly will have to sign a new budget if we want it back.


Don't make excuses for thieves creating an artificial scarcity for greed. Nothing is stopping them from selling today and carry on selling everyday till the price goes up. They must be forced to sell. Availability matters, no matter the price.

PS - Subsidy is a socialist/communist policy. Capitalism is market forces setting price.

It's too far.

Whilst many were concentrating on election outcomes, the National assembly passed a law/took an action that effectively removed subsidy but many did not notice.

Subsidy is destined to end in May/June 2023.

As the new President said - subsidy is gone.

Let's wait and see, we should not just jump into conclusions we don't know his plans.

Some people saying that it was Buhari who removed it. How can you say that? Why didn't he remove it for the past eight years? He allowed his goons to exploit the country by increasing the amount of litres we consume per day in order to steal the subsidy on top.

Market forces don't care about your emotions , Humans would take advantage of anything to give themselves an edge as long as there is no consequence

If I was your president , I would through nnpc acquire 50 filling stations minimum in every city even if it's 6 months lease agreement

Secure tankers that can service them even tho it's 6 months lease

Store enough fuel that would service them for 3 months minimum with an order for another 6 months worth of fuel

The remove subsidy use those filling stations to kick start the market forces
