Ok, it was Obasanjo during his millitary rule in 1977 that brought subsidy.

Abacha subsidized fuel, but brought toll gate in all the major roads in the country, because he believed that the rich is supposed to pay for the poor, Obasanjo came again in 1999 dismantled the toll gate and removed a minute percentage of subsidy and also increased tax on alcohol

Can you see in both cases what benefits the poor masses was not tampered with.

I tell you subsidy is the only help we get from govt.
. Nice one

1- government revenue has reduced, population has increased. Major oil companies are not investing in oil and gas like before due to green energy objectives . So decreased income. Also official exchange rate has gone up since in the 90s to 2015. Buhari Government took too many loans that need repayment the senate and HOR never stopped him. We are currently servicing the debts with 90% of our revenue. Its just like a man who used to give his side chick free money but he now has heavy debts. Nothing for the side chick again na.

2. Message govt for that information or NBS. Or google it
4. There is no subsidy again. There is no subsidy on diesel and kerosene. And the prices are above 500 naira.
the house of senate and rep allowance should be taking away if Nigeria is really that broke. The presidental allowance should also be taking away. Cut down on all useless ministries is Nigeria is broke. Kill the corruption in fuel subsidy not Nigeria.

There is no problem wirh removing subsidy but pay minimum wage 100k, provide 20hours electricity.

Fuel subsidy removal is good for an economy, but not for our type of economy. Nigeria is very corrupt and underdeveloped.

Before removing subsidy on petrol, there are economic structures which should have been put in place, coupled with finding alternative to subsidy removal, and the best alternative is refineries, see I mentioned REFINERIES and not refinery. We must have refineries not one, not two.

Then, government must priorities economic growth, this will increase investment, production, reduce cost of commodities and create employment, only this can caution the effect of subsidy removal. Don't listen to them when they talk about making transport available, how many Nigerians will benefit, or giving 5k to poorest Nigerians, the same ignorant mistake Buhari govt made that made inflation go up.

Yes, the only benefit of subsidy removal is that those billions would be used for other projects, like developing the health and education sector, build infrastructure to drive development, but I ask, have there been allocation for that in the budgets and what did they do with it.

I say this and will keep saying it, unless we can get governance right, that mean getting a president who will manage our resources well and use them for the betterment of the people then let subsidy remain.

Are you people aware that the ENTIRE 10 billion dollars a year paid on subsidies is BORROWED?

The govt was borrowing 1 billion dollars a month to pay subsidy!

Some are here foolishly saying the govt will “squander the funds saved from subsidy removal”.

There are no such funds!

All that will happen is that they will stop having to borrow a billion dollars a month to pay subsidy!

Here are five benefits of fuel subsidy removal:

1. Fuel subsidy removal, according to experts, would free up resources for other sectors of the economy.

2. The government spends a significant portion of its budget on fuel subsidies, which could be better spent on education, healthcare, infrastructure development, amongst other key sectors.

3. Establishments of domestic refineries to produce more petroleum products, reducing Nigeria’s dependence on imported fuel.

4. Availability of domestic refineries will boost the country’s economy

5. Massive creation of jobs for Nigerians.

Good evening

Subsidy firstly is naturally a practice that gives room for corruption
* Imagine you drink beer, and I tell u ,any empty bottle u drink I would pay half the price for you ..just tell me how many you drank and as long as the bar man concores I would pay

It won't take long before you and the barman would start inflating the amount of bottles you took ...you take can't drink 3 bottles would start telling me you drank 15 bottles I can pay for 7.5

Second is imagine me being broke , borrowing money just to make sure I keep paying half your beer so we an keep being friends

_*Petrol price comparison in naira using CBN exchange rate:*_
_*Spain = 246.9 Naira per litre.*_
_*USA = 403.3 Naira per litre.*_
_*UK = 330.6 Naira per litre.*_
_*Germany = 330.6 Naira per litre.*_
_*France = 335.7 Naira per litre.*_
_*Nigeria = 500 to 600 Naira per litre.*_

_*Minimum wage comparison using CBN exchange rate:*_
_*Spain = 535,559 Naira per month.*_
_*USA = 535,340 Naira per month.*_
_*UK = 955,876 Naira per month.*_
_*Germany = 947,618 Naira per month.*_
_*France = 866,241 Naira per month.*_
_*Nigeria = 30,000 Naira per month*_

_*So, when next somebody tells you that fuel subsidy is not sustainable, ask him/her what the minimum wage of a Nigerian civil servant is?*_

_*Until the issue is addressed, average Nigerians will dearly suffer the adverse effects of this hasty fuel subsidy removal without any measures to cushion the untoward effects.*_
