I remember when myself and my mum and grandmum were discussing culture. My mum brought up the "Fattening Room" tradition of how a bride will be in a fattening room days before her marriage in the past.

So that on her marriage day, she would look fresh and fat.

I then asked her if she stayed in the fattening room before her marriage. She said Yes.

My Mum:
Karina, make sure u stay in the fattening room day to your wedding so u will be fat and fresh. You know u are slim.

Me:
Nooo. I will not. This is the 21st century. Nobody stays on the fattening room again. No lady wants to look fat on her wedding day. If she is fat, she would start looking older than her husband on that day.

My Mum:
Hmmm....that one is your business. If u like go and be exercising like you always do and look too slim on that day. I will just pretend as of I don't know you.

You needed to see me on my wedding day. I stayed in the fattening room. I was just eating and resting. On that day ehn, come and see me...I was a Beauty.

Me: (Me looking at her as she mentioned she was a Beauty and wondering how fatness makes a woman beautiful)

Some of the happenings and traditions I see daily makes me question people's sanity and state of mind. Can a whole people be foolish at the same time?

Barbaric traditions. Many African traditions were put forward by men to suppress women. All traditions have their goods and bad. The religious ppl will be quick to condemn this but they are not any better. Many of you have many body counts before marriage and thus not married as a virgin like them. Many of you are not properly groomed about marriage and sex education which has led to divorce and even death cos disagreement causes quarells which may lead to fight and even death. The only problem with this tradition is that the aunt has to test the man too but yours are many
