Oga,obi too is among the ruling class.he is no different from the others just that he pretends to be saintly.surprisingly, tinubu could be the messiah we need.if we wanted change,we would have voted someone that has never held power like sowore, muoghalu etc

You still don't get it. Many people like you made the wrong conclusions because of the wrong premise about what Obi represents. What he's saying is we had a chance to dislodge the normal, wrestle power from the run-of-the-mill politicians and give it back to the people. How many 'ordinary' Nigerians won elections in the ruling APC compared to LP? Our electoral and political values would have reset, Obi was only a semblance of the outlier Nigeria needs, not an everyday politicians (like most of you hail the demagogues as strategists). Now, you've reinforced the old order. Who do you see around the new president? Is it the most brilliant minds we have amongst 200 million people? No, same old same old. We saw Ibori yesterday. These men can't serve you in the manner that will help you, if you're not in their cycle. We just wanted a country that works for all. Just watch as we move in circles for the next 4 years. Nothing that will truly benefit the common man (like electricity) will be fixed. We can argue in 2027.

It is difficult to justify Ibori or Wike because we know their track records of crimes and corruption just like Tinubu as well.

However, it is also difficult to find any non-corrupt politician who wields the power, influence and capacity to stand against the established institution of corruption that has ravaged this country for decades.

God works on mysterious ways. Perhaps these ones will be used in part to make some corrections according to their capacity and God's grace.

Is he supposed to pass it to your father who has no drive or ambition? If your dad had contested, maybe his government would have been better and you wouldn’t need to blame others or have something meaningless to say.

If you had a father like mine, you won't be an asslicker to political thieves and robbers cause he would have brought you up with the right principles and ensured that you are comfortable in life without having to be a peasant to politicians.

at your first point, the black market wouldn't have been an option to importers in the first place if the dollars were available at cbn. To your other point, even with the devaluation, black market still trades at a higher rate in exchange for naira. I really do not see how this would make private players release their dols to cbn. In anyway you want to analyze it, it is catastrophic to the economy
Not really the point, the true value of naira is not that our official rate, recently CBN released that they have spent over 2.4 trillion as subsidy to defend the naira which doesn't make economic sense.

CBN sell at official rate to only a few elites and these elites create the black market.

CBN can eliminate the black market by making the dollar to float, that's the aim.

When the dollar floats, you wouldn't have double exchange anymore

From the antecedents of obi,he represents the old order.dobt forget he partnered with atiku in 2019 and worked for gej and ojukwu.it is too early to judge tinubu.not all the old order are incompetent.no matter how you view tinubu,he has a record of performance and competence.

Immediately we take away power from those ruling class, we have solved lot of our political problems. The current system simply means, loot enough money, use the money to buy power back. This doesnt fix anything. But if we had sent a strong message by pushing away the strong ruling class, even Obi would be scared to mess up because he knows that he would be thrown out by the same people who elected him.

If we must get Nigeria to work, we must fix our electoral system so that those manual collation of results would stop, people wont need to bribe their ways to power, na that time u go see magic.
Europe got fixed becus the people of Europe dont take nonsense from their ruling class and the ruling class knows that a mess up, they would be sent out of office. The true democracy starts when the policians start to be scared of the masses.

There's no guarantee he would perform,he isn't even a known performer.if we must push out the old class,we must push out obi too.among all of them, tinubu is the best and surrounds himself with the best relatively...
This year election is the most improved, the loss of obi is what is blocking you guys.what about other top politicians in apc and pdp that lost to unknown rookies in lp? Does that not tell you that it was largely free? Obi was never going to win

Gr8amechi:

Your analysis is perfect but it fell short of something.
That official rate is an imaginary rate that is only available for a very few elites.

Most importers currently buy dollars at more than 700 naira.

If the CBN allows the Naira to float, it means importer's have no need to go and buy forex in black market because CBN wouldn't be selling at official rates to elites who then will sell to the black market.

Also it will encourage private players to bring in their dollars and officially change in bank as they would make money

The importers unfortunately are unscrupulous and will still inflate their prices.

But I love your insight. Most people don't know importers RARELY buy USD at official rates. Where will you see it?

They already buy at Black Market but with the official rate increasing, some will still inflate (claiming to take into consideration - transportation and general inflation)
