Hello,

Sorry this may not be the right place but I believe I will meet the right audience here.

This is my first time renting a house, I saw a good house, I liked it and was ready to pay for it.

So my question is when I want to pay for my rent, I’m I not suppose to meet the landlord for the payment and tenancy agreement?

Now the agent is telling me that the landlord is not available cause he has many buildings and most of his tenants have not meet him and bla bla bla.

So my advise is, does this make sense. I for one, not willing to go ahead with such deal but I’ll like to hear experiences of people. What do you think of this.

Thank you

Secretly go to the house yourself and ask one or two tenants how they followed due process when paying for the apartment. I’m sure the tenants would have a lot to tell you.

Did you get the house through the agent ??if yes then you have no choice. But ask the agent to make all you need available to you before handling over the house rent. Confirm also from others in the house if the practice was general ,then you know the step to take

When I moved in to my first apartment in Abuja,I encountered people like that ur agent.

See what I did,I went to the apartment at night and asked all the neighbours in that house about the owner which they all confirmed that they were paying through the agent.

I requested for the account and it tallied with what the agent gave me and I paid and moved in quickly.

Do this and clear ur doubts.

It doesn't matter, as long as you are paying to aa trusted agent, you are good to go.

Another thing is you can secretly go and meet other tenants and ask if they have meet the landlord before and if the agent is genuine....

I work as facility manager, and I manager, my boss don't relate with tenants except we have a general meetings, she will always tell the agent bringing tenants to relate with me, that's all...

I think you need to go back to that same house and ask questions from the tenants their about the landlord and who they know as the care taker

That's the only place you will know the real truth about the landlord and agent connection
