The National Board for Technology Education (NBTE) on Tuesday withdrew accreditation for all courses offered by the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu over sharp practices of admission and mobilisation of National Youth Service Corps members.
The Board asked the NYSC to put on hold the list of students mobilised for NYSC by the institution till further notice, while asking JAMB to stop further admission into National Diploma programmes in the institution. This is part of a crackdown by NBTE on institutions under its supervision found to be engaged in activities that falls below the minimum academic requirement for accreditation in such institutions.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Masa’udu Adamu Kazaure told reporters in Kaduna that IMT Enugu was found to have over mobilised students for the NYSC scheme, far above the records submitted by them to the Board, thereby engaging in sharp practices in terms of admission into the institution, adding that records of the enrolment and graduate output did not tally. According to him, the institution was over mobilising students for the annual national youth service, leading to a complaint from the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to the Board who subsequently invited the Rector of the Polytechnic to explain, adding that after investigation, it was clear that measures should be taken to restore the minimum academic standard in the institution.
