Abuja, 9th June 2023

The Universal Learning Solutions Initiative (ULSI) welcomes with great delights, the announcement by the Universal Basic Education Commissions (UBEC) of the successful completion of the Impact Assessment Report of the Jolly Phonics and Science and Mathematics for Nigerian Education (SMASE) programs. The comprehensive assessment which commenced in 2021, "has yielded extremely promising results, underscoring the effectiveness of these educational initiatives in Nigeria", according to the report.

In a press release signed by Sylvanus Udoenoh, the organization's ICT and Communications Officer, the organization noted that "in the announcement on Wednesday, 7th June 2023 after a momentous Teachers Professional Development (TPD) Conference held in Abuja, UBEC proudly disseminated the final report of the assessment exercise. Receiving the report, ULSI Country Director, Patrick Uzu, expressed profound sense of gratitude and appreciation for the remarkable outcomes witnessed through the implementation of Jolly Phonics."

According to the report, "the Impact Assessment unequivocally established that pupils enrolled in the Jolly Phonics program consistently outperformed their counterparts in non-Jolly Phonics classes. This achievement demonstrates the undeniable benefits of incorporating this phonics-based learning methodology into the Nigerian education system. The report's findings serve as a testament to the program's efficacy in enhancing pupils' literacy skills and overall academic performance."

ULSI extends profound appreciation to all stakeholders for their commitments and dedication to the program. "We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the directors and staff of the organization, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in implementing the Jolly Phonics program effectively. The collaboration and commitment of the teachers, pupils, UBEC, and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) officials have played a crucial role in the realization of these remarkable achievements."

"ULSI also thanked Mr. Gary Foxcroft and wife, Mrs. Naomi Foxcroft, (Chairman and Executive Director of ULS), whose unwavering commitment and selflessness led to the initiation of the Jolly Phonics project in Nigeria. "Their dedication to improving literacy in the country has yielded commendable results, and their efforts deserve immense appreciation."

The Country Director, Patrick Uzu specially thanked Louise Jolly, "who has displayed remarkable dedication and passion for the Jolly Phonics project", adding that she, "also merits our sincere appreciation. Her expertise and tireless efforts have contributed significantly to the success of the program."

ULSI invites everyone to join in celebrating this significant victory. "We encourage individuals, organizations, and communities to recognize and acknowledge the success of the Jolly Phonics program in any way they deem appropriate.
