Tinubu Promised To Continue From Buhari ! Has He Already Started With CBN? by Nwaetche(m): 2:41am On Jun 11, 2023
Tinubu promised Nigerians to continue from Where Buhari Stopped! Is he already fulfilling the promise?

President Tinubu recently suspended the CBN governor Mr. Godwin Emefiele, whose statutory tenure would be elapsing next year, and in his place appointed Mr. Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi who is number three (3) in CBN hierarchy after Governor Emefiele to replace him albeit in an acting capacity.

Emifiele, an ethnic Igbo from the Ika Subgroup sacking as expected has raised a pushback from OHANEZE, the apex Igbo Socio-Cultural organization who has accused Tinubu of embarking on ethnic cleansing.

Although I am not here to justify Ohaneze’s stand but when one compares Tinubu action when the HOR raised hell about a former Aviation ministers daylight robbery of our patrimony through the Air Nigeria scams Ohaneze apprehension of the treatment meted to one their prominent sons in government seems justified. In Hadi Sirika criminal scam even with calls by his arrest by Arewa group, Tinubu never made any attempt let alone allow DSS to go arrest him for questioning till today.

While some Nigerians welcome Emefiele sacking especially the role the CBN played during the last Election a lot more Nigerians are scratching their head to understand Tinubu’s rationale in bypassing more qualified deputy governors and appointing a fellow Yoruba as an acting CBN Governor.

Based on Nigeria recent experience with former President Buhari penchant in appointing his tribesmen even when we had more qualified Nigeria from other ethnicities, many Nigeria are wondering if Tinub has not indeed started implementing his promise to Nigerians to continuing with Buhari policies and programmes.

In this instance many Nigerians who understand the role of CBN in monetary policy management especial in these challenging times are questioning why Mr. Tinubu should bypass even seasoned economists in the CBN top hierarchy and appoint someone with a mechanical engineering degree.

In other climes as mentioned by Deji Adeyenju who cited Turkiye and Kenya examples, pragmatic leaders have gone even outside their shores to employ central governors to help remedy their economies when in crises as Nigeria of today. A good example is Mark Joseph Carney from Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, Canada, an economist who served as governor of the Bank of Canada and was employed to head the Bank of England in 2013 during the British economic meltdown.
Another example would be Stanley Fischer a renowned economics Professor and IMF veteran who was born in Zimbabwe but later became Bank of Israel Governor and later Vice Chairman of America Federal Reserve Bank.

As a Nigerian, please I would like you to go through the profiles (from CBN website) of the top CBN deputy governors in hierarchical order and adjudicate objectively if Tinubu made the right choice or has, he already acquiesced to primitive nepotism in appointing Mr. Shonubi?; a fellow Yoruba straight from his ally Buhari’s playbook.

All these people you mentioned will soon be picked by DSS after they must have quizzed Emefiele. They worked for him to truncate Nigeria economy… I’m certain they too will be arrested in coming days or week.

Mr. Shonubi appointment is a sqaure peg on a round hole. He does not have the qualification and requisite experience for that office.

He handles day today operations concerning Branches, Banking services, currency operations, etc. These are areas that anyone with a written SOP and training can handle.

No wonder he failed woefully to implement the redesign Naira program during the last election as that functions falls under his office.

In fact he should be the one to be arrested with Emefiele for the ill-fated Naira redesign instead of being compensated because he is Yoruba like the president.

Is that not true?

A mechanical engineer that deals with day to day cbn branch related issues, currency transaction is selected above others with better qualifications and experience in the required area? That is pure nepotism!
