Please people I need serious help with this. My two years old son has been having this on and off cough and heavy breathing with a bit snoring sound in the nose not really like whistling, since he was a year old. This mostly become too serious at night. I have been to different hospitals, including FMC owo. I was told to run series of test which includes hiv and tuberculosis tests which came out negative. I also did a chest xtray which turned out to be bronchopneumonia pneumonia. He was given several antibiotics which includes augmenting and several others I can’t remember and injections still the symptoms still persist. It is really worrisome seeing him going through all this on and off at this tender age. We have also been to a pediatrician, all to no positive result. Please if you have experience this before, I need your opinion on how you were able to manage it and cure this. Doctors in the forum your opinions we be greatly appreciated on how to go about this

I think you expose him to breeze when he was still a baby like you don't want him feel heat by positioning him in front of standing fan? ....and again he will grow out of it since you've done many test and see some doctors has attended to him. He breath through the mouth at sleep?

Look up "cystic fibrosis" and check if it matches his symptoms. Once, met a woman with the same story for her little daughter. Wasted a lot of time and money in the hospital and all they did was soak the young girl in antibiotics. I had to research for the possible causes of troubled breathing in young infants. Then narrowed it down to cystic, guided by other symptoms she was having. Met the woman again about a year later, she thanked me and told me she's not had any reason to rush her to hospital ever since. She learnt to manage it at home and the girl is doing fine

Most doctors in this country don't look beyond common causes of sickness. Or should I say they're too unwilling to do their job effectively.

Not really, he doesn’t breath with his when asleep except when the nose is blocked from catarrh. For the breeze, my area is a bit cold especially during raining season reason because there are few mountains around but he’s always indoors most times. I wouldn’t know

Tips. Am a patient of this. I over grew it. My mum do suck my nose after shower thats like my 1yr plus. I was told d story wen am all grown up

They said it was too strong for 4 months but the pharmacist regulated the dosage. He said that was the only medicine to handle it, and it did

My parents told me i had this when I was around the same age. It will clear off.

I would advise you to see an ENT Specialist. Ear, nose and throat surgeon. They have access to areas that paediatricians don't usually check that can cause the problem. They are in the best position to make a diagnosis and proffer a solution.

It's not unnatural to go in and out of hospital as a younging. Bronchopneumonia only affects children at this age but as long as the constitutional symptoms are controlled you really have nothing to worry about. A child will continue to have laboured breathing and chest diseases cos their airway is tiny.

You cannot separate a child from cough and catarrh so please rest easy.
The symptoms will reduce as he grow older.

Daughter almost had this same issues at 8months or so, bad weather condition, poor ventilation ,excess or gradual cold which store in the bone cavity , harmful or toxic chemicals inhaled re the general cause . But with age he gradually over came them and very agile and health vibrant now. Then hope the child is not on the chubby side too ?

Well you are right, this things can be scary at times to new parents

This is one of the challenges we have in our health care in Nigeria which includes ignorance of some important sub- specialties and the services they offer, even amongst health care workers.
By the time you keep waiting for the child to outgrow the obstructive breathing a lot of damage would have been done to the child which include delayed growth and right heart failure.
The choice is yours. I have done my part and I rest my case.

Your son may be suffering from either tonsil, adenoids or both.
Pls take him to ENT Doctor for proper investigations as soon as possible.

Op, take this one's advice at your own peril. These are the kinds of hypemen that work in lavatories by night and primary health care facilities at mornings.

Even if he was to go see a specialist, is it an otorhinolaryngologist he will see first or a paediatrician with these symptoms?

How is he suffering from tonsil? Or tonsillitis without fever. How is the child suffering from tonsillitis when he is coughing? You ppl think money Is plucked from trees .
