Comrade Salahudeen A. Lukman applauded Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on approval of the deployment of government buses to support the movement of students and workers in public tertiary institutions within Ilorin, the capital city, and its environs.

Lukman, who is the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s House of Assembly Candidate for Ojomu Balogun Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, made this known in a statement he personally signed on Sunday.

He said, "the news of bus palliative for students and workers of public tertiary institutions in Ilorin metropolis and it's environs is indeed a proactive move by Governor AA, it compliments the earlier adjustment of work days from 5 to 3 for civil servants with exclusion of education and health sectors workers.

"The latest complimentary support move of His Excellency Gov Abdulrahamman Abdulrasak is a laudable one and must be commended by all and sundry.

"Being in opposition doesn't mean we are blind to pro-people action of the government, in as much we're definitely going to condemn any anti-masses or life-threatening policy or programme of the ruling party, it's expected of us to commend and appreciate pro-people actions of the government as patriotic citizens and opposition with purpose."

He added that the opposition purpose is to keep the ruling on toes by critically examine its actions and inactions and how they affect people.

"The ultimate aim is to constructively provoke the ruling party/Governor to do more and much better for the electorate hence this my position.

However, as a former National Students Union leader in the country, and a right civil society activist in national polity, students don't appreciate selective support but collective one, an injury to one is always considered an injury to all as well as a blessing for one is always a blessing for all.

"I wish to appeal to His Excellency Gov Abdulrahman Abdulrasak to extend this bus palliative gesture to Offa Community, being second most populated and active economic city in the state which also hosta about 6 tertiary institutions namely, Federal Polytechnic, Kwara State College of Heath Technology, Pan African Polytechnic, Lens Polytechnic, Summit University among others.

"Government must learn to treat every part of the state and the entire kwarans with equity, fairness and justice, whatever that is good for goose is also good for gander.

"Infact every kwara city with tertiary institutions deserves this bus palliative gesture , Lafiagi, Oro and share inclusive.

"While hoping Mr Governor will yeild to my appeal, I commend his excellency palliative initiative to ameliorate suffering of our people in this very difficult but necessary period in the history of our dear country. The post Subsidy Regime.

Recall Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State has approved the deployment of government buses to support the movement of students and workers in public tertiary institutions within Ilorin, the capital city, and its environs.

The bus palliative for the students, covering the metropolis, is the second phase in the measures by the Kwara State Government to cushion the effects of the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

The government had earlier reduced workdays for civil servants from five to three weekdays, while bureaucrats worked out other measures for workers exempted from the policy.

According to a Kwara State Government House statement, signed by the spokesman to the governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, in Ilorin, on Sunday: “From Wednesday, June 14, some large buses will be deployed to transport students of public tertiary institutions within the metropolis, including those going to the Kwara State University campus at Malete. Further details will be released by the coordinating Ministries, Agencies and Departments (MDAs).

“The state government will continue to offer immediate support for the Kwara public as Nigeria permanently transitions to the post-fuel subsidy regime and different steps are taken to bring more ease to the people while growing the economy in a sustainable way.”
