A Nigerian woman has taken to twitter to call out IVF centers engaging in egg harvesting and warns women selling their eggs about the dangers involved. She made a twitter thread, quoting an article about egg harvesting. In her tweet, she said



"Nigeria has the largest egg harvesting operation in the world. Today, millions of Nigerians are exported in small test tubes from IVF clinics around Nigeria for money. The biotechnology companies who buy these eggs slaughter them in European and American laboratories for...

...embryonic stem cell research." Young women and girls in Nigeria, out of for cash, are repeatedly visiting fertility clinics through the back door to have their eggs harvested. Companies may collect more than 1.5m from rich clients, and pay the girls N100k-120k for each harvest



In most cases, the girls are not informed that repeated eggs harvesting poses a strong risk of cancer, ovarian failure, liver or kidney failure, infertility, internal infection, internal bleeding and death. If you know of someone who intends to sell her eggs, especially students who are being actively recruited at universities, please warn them of the possible consequences. Egg donation should ideally be done only once to reduce the possibility of danger. There are also a fixed number of eggs a woman is born with. Her ovaries cannot regenerate them.

The ones who know what they are going for ... hopefully they know the risks and long term effects. I'm more concerned about young ladies eggs being harvested unknown to them. "Stomach pains" is verrry common in young ladies... many go to the hospital and doctors usually name the appendix or some other cause that requires surgery. Does one really know what is really done during surgery?... do they harvest eggs?.... or take a kidney? We need to be very wary of doctors too quick to recommend surgery.
