It's no secret that children are like sponges, absorbing everything that happens around them. Every information and experience can influence a child in one way o another. This is why they have to be guided and nurtured so they develop into highly functional adults later on.

Therefore, one of the best ways to do it is to nurture a healthy competitive spirit in children. They should be able to learn the importance of making an effort in order achieve something and reap the rewards. So with that in mind, let's have a closer look at the importance of nurturing a competitive spirit in kinds.

It makes them thing strategically
Kids who compete against other children tend to develop strategic thinking early on. If they want to win, they must be creative and leverage their imagination in order to beat the competition.

A good example of this is raising money for the class project through various activities. Kids are paired into groups and set in a competition about who can raise the most funds for the project. Therefore, the best way for kids to earn money for the class would be to sell candy, for instance, but they would have to do so in a way that will make people interested. Teachers could supply the candy using the Swedish kakservice, for example, to give kids something to work with.

It fosters teamwork
Kids may seem disorganized but they can effectively come together and work as team when a healthy competition is involved. Individually, they may not be able to get the task done but together, they can leverage ideas and different strategies to overcome most of the obstacles they run into.

We often underestimate the potential children have within them and that potential can only be fostered if certain level of challenges is presented to them. Otherwise, children may not have the opportunity to find different ways to handle a challenging situation when they find themselves in one.

It makes kids strive for improvement
A healthy competition can be very beneficial for kids. Win or lose, kids will see the circumstances as an opportunity to improve, do better and reach new heights with their potential.

But in order for this to work, a competitive spirit is necessary to give children a nudge in the right direction. One day these kids will grow up and carve their own path in life. The more they learn when they are young, the more useful skills and experience they will develop that will aid them on their way to success.
