A 65-year-old pensioner has reportedly been left to languish in Nigeria after years of training and providing for his children abroad.

The man sent them to study in different countries but now that they are grown, they made arrangements for only their mother, who’s 60 years old, to join them abroad.

According to a Facebook user who shared the story, the father worked all his life to give his kids the best education and ensure that they were comfortable in their host countries.

However, now that they live in America and Europe, they neglect him by not calling or showing interest in his welfare even as he battles high blood pressure and other ailments.

The post reads; “He’s 65 years old. Retired pensioner, worked all his life to raise his kids. Deprived himself of life’s pleasures to pay expensive school fees and living expenses for his kids abroad.

They are now well-off in Europe and America. His wife, 60, has relocated to live with her kids. He’s alone back in Nigeria. His kids barely call him. He now has to start life all over as a bachelor. He struggles with high blood pressure and other ailments.

How long more would he survive alone? This is the reality for most working class monogamous men. Their old age is usually lonely and in many cases, sad. Try as you may, women love their kids more than their husbands, no matter how good the man is. The older he gets, the less use they have for him.

Tell me then, what do men benefit from marriage? They sacrifice so much but get little recognition for the hard work. The woman reaps all the benefits as the kids are often closer and more affectionate towards her when she becomes old.”

Secure your old age by having 2nd and if possible 3rd wife if you have the power to do so.

By the time your children from your first wife are graduating from the higher institutions, the second wife children will be finishing with their primary school and secondary schools.

When your first wife started going for omugwo in Canada, UK or US you won't be left alone with house maids or left alone in your mansion.

Fathers hardly go to their children house when they are married, either male or female so its our mothers that enjoy such benefits.

To our brothers in abroad, those planning to Jakpa too, please remember your old age too when the weather there will be too harsh for your old age, when your children and their mother will not follow you back to Nigeria, it is time for you to setup another base here in Nigeria.

Our old age is very important and we must plan towards it.

Sadly, that's the situation right now with a distant 73 year old uncle.
His moronic children do things with their mom and he is stranded alone.

Serves him right though, he was busy slaving away for those morons and neglected his brothers and sisters children who could have been of great help to him.

No right thinking man should concentrate on his children alone, look for others to raise, sisters, brothers, cousins and others.

There is a great reward for that.

Yes, I agree with you that children shouldn't be a retirement plan. But it is deeper than that, saying it like that simplify the issue which is not so good.
One. Let's talk about loneliness. Why should children take away the wife from her husband when he's not violent to her or "abandon" her? I think children in Nigeria need to put a stop to this culture of selfishness.
Two. Many parents barely earn enough to feed, cloth and sponsor the children education, they don't have anything left to save or invest. They make making their kids become something in life a priority. Such parents deserve to be cut some slacks

The reason why women are typically taken out is that they are going to perform a service (childcare) that the man cannot perform.
Most likely the children and their spouses are working full time and need someone who is family to keep an eye on the grandkids.

People must stop having the number of children that causes them to barely feed, cloth and sponsor education. There is something called contraceptives available for cheap in many community health centres. Bringing a child into the world is optional. If you brought a kid into the world you are obligated to care for it.
If they did not cut themselves sexual and reproductive slack, why should the children cut them some slack?
