Successfully launching a new social media platform, such as the Threads app, is unarguably one of the most notoriously difficult things to attempt.

After Facebook successfully upturned existing platforms in 2004, only a handful have successfully risen to challenge its dominance. One such platform is Twitter, which has risen to become a formidable force in the social media space over the past decade.

However, the launch of the Threads app by Meta’s Instagram last week signals the end of Twitter’s dominance. Compared to Trump-backed Truth Social, Mastodon, and Twitter founder, Jack Dorsey’s Bluesky, which were launched within the past five years, the Threads app is arguably the only one that poses a real threat to Twitter’s dominance.
