Kudos

Government should have charged at most half of the current fare to fuel the buses bcoz anything free wouldn't last.

Drivers would tell lies, fuel stations would lie, mechanic would lie, supervisors would lie, managers would lie, and the buses would be grounded.

A little charges would extend the lifespan of the program.

It's my views.

For a state like Rivers, anything less than 500 of these buses is a joke.

With their population, demographics, and pocket. 500 of these and a thousand of the smaller 18-seaters should be their minimum target.

There should be at least 5 of these in each LGA for it to make minimum impact.

That's at least 100 buses.

They bought 17!

A drop in the ocean if you ask me.

Instead of making it free,why not make it non profit?
At least with it being non profit,the fares would be quite affordable to just take care of the cost of diesel and repairs and the government only expense would be the cost of purchase of these buses.
At free transport cost,this may be gulping up to 1billion per month to fuel and maintain!

Free ke! Shey government will be able to run it effectively for the whole 3 years? The vision should be running it beyond 3 years and shouldn't be free. It should be run at a subsidize rate to lessen the burden on the government.

Would that not just be kicking the subsidy can down the road? Do you know the level of "aloota" that will "continua" when the subsidy moves to bus transport subsidy?

Good governing by the rivers state government. Rivers state citizens finally have a
government that works for the citizens. But why is it going to be for only three years? It should be permanent or subsidized at discount prices for the citizens. It will create jobs and provide real savings for the citizens.i am from Akwa Ibom state. For years I have advocated subsidized public transportation for the citizens of Akwa Ibom state and got ignored by the state government. The reason is Akwa Ibom has no government that works for the citizens. That is why public transportation has not been provided for citizens. Public transportation transportation moves people and goods from one place to another. And that means jobs for locals. It also means saving for raining days. So I write to thank the rivers state government for finally doing something for its citizens and I hope other states government in Nigeria will follow this kind of program.

Other states should follow suit...employment for bus drivers, less cars and relieve for people. States have a role to play and Federal won't do jobs meant for States. REMOVING SUBSIDY WILL INCREASE ALLOCATIONS...GREAT GOVS WILL DO THE NEEDFUL.
