Whether you have committed 10,000 sins or 100 sins, the process for obtaining freedom from slavery to sin is the exact same for everyone, same duration as well. And no amount of "good" you do can or will change that.

■ But there are cases where one has to keep doing smth bad even with regrets.
■ Such person may want to make up for his errors by persistently doing smth that is pleasing to God.

■ Here is an illustration: one who lives in the streets knows that survival is a prerogative of the fittest. In order to survive dishonesty becomes pertinent. Now there could be some way through which he exhibits humanity, say charity. Won't that weigh more than his bads and cancel them out?

Why should it? God never said it was possible for any man to purchase forgiveness of sins via doing of works of charity. So why should such weigh at all?

But st. Peter said precisely that charity wipes away sins

Jesus Christ said in His Gospel that those who love Him are those who obey His teachings and commandments, and these are those who are His friends --- John 14 vs 15 - 23 & John 15 vs 14. What Peter said was not in regards to your ordinary love for each other but rather the love that one is meant to have for Jesus Christ, the one who is able to forgive the sins of men. Go back through what Peter said, making certain to give priority to contextual message and you will find that Peter never said one could simply get on God's right side by doing mere charity work.

■ But there are actions stated in the bible that go beyond the mere doing of them. 'whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers that you do unto me', 'whoever gives you a cup of water because you are a prophet will recieve the reward of a prophet', He who recieves you recieves me, and who recieves me recieves the one who sent me'.

What then becomes of those stated above, are they less than commandments?
