The Impact of Political Transitions on West African Governance.

In the last few years under President Muhammadu Buhari's leadership, military coups have been a recurring issue across West Africa, and viable solutions have been lacking. However, President Obasanjo's ascension to power in 1999 marked a turning point, not only for Nigeria but for the entire continent. His administration encouraged military personnel to transition into politics, leading to a more civil approach to governance across Africa.

During a recent visit to Uganda, I was pleasantly surprised by the country's relative freedom despite having a former military figure as president. It is often said that even the worst form of democracy is preferable to military rule.

The younger African population, who have never experienced military rule, may not fully grasp the atrocities that occurred during those times. Journalists were killed with letter bombs, and activists faced hangings or gunfire. Upholding an illegitimate government will only enable exploitation by foreign powers, as seen in Africa's history with Western and Eastern nations.

While observing the team of negotiators, I became concerned. Although highly respected, General Abdulsalam and Sultan of Sokoto's love and influence might not sway a military government. African leaders not only respect but fear President Obasanjo due to his decisive actions.

Despite their political differences, President Tinubu may need Obasanjo's counsel and support, especially when facing potential coup threats in Nigeria. The country's vast military population provides a unique advantage, but seeking advice from a seasoned former general is crucial.

In conclusion, a peaceful transition to democracy has significantly improved governance in Africa. Military rule's dark past should not be forgotten, and embracing democratic principles is essential for the continent's growth and stability.

Love you all,

Dr. Stephen Akintayo.

If Democracy was working in the first place they would have been no need for military coups...
Its very clear that Democracy does not help anybody in Africa...
What has Africa gained from democracy
Corruption, mismanagement, underdevelopment, poverty e.t.c
Nigeria is just a ticking time bomb

See

There will always be a reason to overthrow good govt and there will also be a reason to install bad govt. It is all about selfish interest.

The military coup in Niger and others should be dislodged with immediate effect.

It is no longer an internal affair of a country. Military coup in five countries within three years is pandemic. Those guys teach themselves to overthrow their civilian government. If care is not taken it could happen all over west Africa and beyond. It has happened before. Military rule is never an option, it will never bring any good

the easiest solution to military coups is for Democratic leaders to deliver good development to the masses...
Demomocratic leaders don't perform well in Africa they simply loot the country to stupor
Democracy is a failure in Africa...
If Tinubu does not perform well in Nigeria same thing might happen...

it becomes an alternative when Democratic leaders turn government houses to circus displays for clowns...
Military becomes an alternative when a clown puppet becomes the president...
Nobody has that patience of waiting for 4 years for the clown to finish his magical display of looting...

Look I have been clamouring for your Biafra for 5 straight years now and I pray in due time you get it and turn it into the African version of north Korea.

You see something ehn, you ohus will continue to stumble and fumble .

This your dik measuring contest with Yorubas has gotten you nowhere but relegation and allienation.

When Yoruba carry your matter for head just know say Una own don finish as far as Nigeria is concerned.

But rest assured, Tinubu will not see to you being expelled as he will not want to be on record to be the President that granted another North Korea basket case Somalia in West Africa.

But one thing is sure, the relationship that existed between you and the south is over.

You should begin to align with the north more openly to sabotage the south as you've been doing since Jan 15, 1966.

u make sense, this should be a red alert for other countries. They need to seat tight and perform. Africa is so backward, no massive major development. Look at Malaysia and south Africa, Nigeria should be doing better than this two countries all rounder. Standard of living, agriculture, health, security and infrastructure facilities should be focus on.

M.Gaddaffi is the only visionary leader I have seen his track records. He was a great leader, u need to see how Libya was transformed. He built a golden empire that was working , modern cities in Libya. U need to see how Libyans citizens were living large. Gaddafi, Nelson Mandela and Yaradua were a rare gem, they're president and leaders who need to be emulated.
