A Chivalrous Church by Pastoshizzy(m): 6:42pm On Aug 05, 2023
Introduction:

Matthew 25:44-45 sets the tone for understanding the need for Christians to identify with the less privileged during economic recessions and epidemic situations. It states, "Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.'"

• Christians need to prioritize the needs of the poor and the needy at all times. The words from the Bible encourages selflessness and empathy towards the less privileged.
On the day of Pentecost (Acts Chapter 2) the Apostles of Jesus led by Peter had preached the Gospel to unbelievers whom were astonished by supernatural events that was taking place that day. They people not only listened but through their faith and the grace of God were baptised in the Holy Spirit (these people became the early church) as prophesised through the scriptures. History recorded that they lived in one accord.
Acts 2:44-47 says that:
"And all who believed were together, and had everything in common. And they sold their possessions and goods, and distributed them to everyone, as each one had need.
And they continued daily with one accord in the temple, and broke bread from house to house, and ate their food with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the Church daily those who were being saved."

Today we have a church that is waxing cold (Matthew 24: 12)
The Church should not only seek to some founder's infastructural vision or self interests, but the interests of the fellowship individually and collectively (especially the less privileged) as stated in Philippians 2 verse 4.
"Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others."
The end of the passage (Acts of Apostles 2) states that the Church increased daily. A chivalrous church.

• Christians are called to be compassionate and generous, extending help and support to those facing economic hardships and health crises. Proverbs 3:27 states that:
"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it." This verse emphasizes the importance of taking action when we have the means to assist others.

• The very essence of love in a fellowship of Christians is to actively contribute to the well-being (spiritually and materially) of their fellow believers and to extend hospitality to those in need. Romans 12, verse 13 ("Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality"wink highlights the importance of providing assistance and support during challenging times to members of the fellowship (budding believers and the mature christians alike).

"In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
- Matthew 5:16

• Christians are called to be a beacon of hope and compassion, demonstrating their faith through acts of kindness and generosity. By helping the less privileged during economic recessions and epidemics, they reflect God's love and bring glory to Him by action through faith in His words.

Conclusion:
James 1:27 provides a fitting conclusion to our discussion: "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world." This verse emphasizes that it is both a privilege and a responsibility for Christians to care for the less privileged during difficult times. By embracing this duty, Christians not only fulfill their spiritual calling but also demonstrate their gratitude for the blessings they have received.

The scriptures of the the Bible serve as guidance for Christians. We would only feel the need to actively engage with and support the less privileged as we grow in faith. We become a replica of the love of our life, our Savior from whom we have received a great inheritance through His love towards the church.

And so it is that chivalry lives in us through Christ Jesus. Amen.
