There is no solution to a broken flash drive once your system cannot read it then forget it there is nothing you can do about that, Sorry you need to get another or maybe you had done a backup before it occurred grin,

How do you repair a corrupt flash drive? By that I mean that its software is damaged and it is not working well even after formatting.
Re: Please How Do I Retrieve Files From A Broken Flash Drive? by bolataiwo(m): 3:22pm On Oct 11, 2011
post the picture of the broken usb drive. u might need to solder it first waiting for the picture
Re: Please How Do I Retrieve Files From A Broken Flash Drive? by justwise(m): 3:26pm On Oct 11, 2011
If the system can not recognize it then you are done but if it could be mounted then its easy to carve out files on it even if its deleted and formatted

If you're not sure if your flash drive is physically broken, you can recover the NAND memory chip from the circuit board in order to extract and unscramble the raw data stored inside, all you need is the chip  wink
Re: Please How Do I Retrieve Files From A Broken Flash Drive? by Nobody: 3:38pm On Oct 11, 2011
Hi, Since you sat on the flash drive, it not like the memory IC are spoilt,
Just the USB Head has probably been disconnected. It is usually soldered onto the board, Man handling or twists and bending of the flash especially when pulling them out of USB slots will usually break this solder connection. Most flash drives people throw away can actually be repaired easily.

So to get you flash working again you need to open it and solder the four connections back on to the board.
I must warn you that you need to have the ability to nimbly solder closely space parallel wire without them touching each other to succeed. applying too much solder at any point can bridge the separation gap and cause you to start again.

You can take it to TV repairs and show them the four points from the USB Head to be carefully  resoldered while you watch.

Are you able to connect it back to computer, and does the computer recognize the flash drive? If yes, then you can use this program to recover your files http://www.asoftech.com/adr/. it depends on a number of factors, what is broken? If the sticks USB interface (the silver secton you insert into the PC) is snapped off, although it may be possible to solder back together, most likely youve lost your data. if it broke the casing or just dropped a piece out ot might be possible to fix it, your best bet would be to take it to a computer enthusiast near you, so go to school and toalk to the IT teacher or IT Technician, or a knowledgable classmate. I would guess that how your describing it however that your USB stick is broken for good.

Re: Please How Do I Retrieve Files From A Broken Flash Drive? by Nobody: 4:40pm On Oct 11, 2011
The best way to get a viable solution  or good advice is if you could post a picture of the broken USB drive as someone suggested earlier. This sounds like a physical damage to the packaging only, but if the chip itself is damaged, there is absolutely nothing you can do.

What do you mean exactly by stopped working? Your system cannot recognise it or your system sees the drive but the hard drive cannot open? If your system recognises the drive but cannot open it, then i might be able to help you

Please, someone inserted my hardisk in his laptop to copy some files and somehow, his antivirus (NORTON) performed an action on my drive and corrupted it.
All the folders are showing but when I click on it, it shows empty but the drive still reads and shows the used space.
I have a lot of important folders in it and i actually fell sick because of this mishap. I've searched online for file recoveries but its way more than what I can afford.
Can anybody he me hear pleasseee!!!

Well if your computers are still able to detect the flash and give the error message "usb device not recognized" or something like that
here is what you can try
1 will work most of the time but if not then 2. Never tried 3.
cheers and good luck.

Usb device not recognized
Submitted by zen on Wed, 2007-02-07 11:02. Windows Tips
My Problem:
I have a USB drive that always worked. However all of a sudden, it stopped working. I got a "Usb device not recognized" error every time I plugged in the device.

Probable Cause:
I've plugged in my friend's USB drive on the same computer, perhaps during the automatic installation process, the USB device didn't install properly and then some how it messed up my USB device drivers.

Solution:
I found the following solution workable for my case:
Remove Hidden Devices 1. Click Start. Click Run. Type cmd and press OK.
2. Type “set DEVMGR_SHOW_DETAILS=1″ (without quotation marks) and press Enter.
3. Type “set DEVMGR_SHOW_NONPRESENT_DEVICES=1″ (without quotation marks) and Press Enter.
4. Type “start devmgmt.msc” (without quotation marks) and click press Enter.
5. Click View. Click Show hidden devices.
6. Click “+” to expand Imaging devices, Unknown devices and USB devices.
7. Are there any USB devices and unknown devices (including grayed out devices)? If so, please right click it and click Uninstall.

(It's found on the hersam web site)
After doing this, my device works again with no problem.

Your Problem:
If you get "Usb device not recognized" in Windows and the above solution doesn't work for you, there might be other causes:
A) USB device worked before but suddenly stopped working:

The following solution might be applicable:

1) Remove all oem*.inf files =
1. Click start and click run then under the run line type in the command “cmd” (without the quotation marks)
2. In the command line, type in the following (without the quotes) and press enter after each command:
“cd \windows\inf”
“ren infcache.1 *.old”
“ren oem*.inf *.old”
“del C:\windows\setupapi.log”

2) Removing all entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Enum/USB that start with VID ==
Removing the VID entries from the registry will cause them to be redetected at restart.
CAUTION: If you have a USB keyboard or mouse, do not remove the VID entry for these devices, otherwise, Windows may not restart correctly.
1. Click Start and click Run. Type regedit and click OK. The Registry Editor window will open.
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Enum\USB.
3. Highlight and delete all the VID_…. entries.
Permissions may be set allowing the deletion of the VID_ entries by following the steps below:
a)Right-click the key to be deleted, and then click Permissions. The VID_… Permissions window will open.
b)With Everyone highlighted in the Group or User name section, select Full Control in the Permissions section.
c)Click Apply, and then click OK.
4. Turn off the computer.

Reconnect the USB device to the computer system: ==
1. With the computer system turned off, reconnect the USB hub to the the USB port.
2.Restart the computer.
3.A New Hardware Detected window should open and reload the drivers.

B) USB device never worked before / it works but die in midway when doing something or you may get "usb device has malfunctioned":
The following solution might be applicable:
1) Try using a shorter USB cable.
2) Try plug in the device to the back of your computer instead of the front USB port (this is because some computers don't have enough power in the front USB ports)

3) Some USB 2.0 device are not backward compatible with USB 1.1 ports. Try plugging in with USB 1.1 and 2.0 port to see that's the cause of the problem.

4) Try downgrade all your USB port from 2.0 down to 1.1, you can do that in your BIOS.

5) if all failed, try the USB device on a different computer. Then you can determine if the USB device or the USB port is the culprit of the problem
also, if you can't find your solution here, you might be able to find it on the link below,
http://dan.hersam.com/archives/2005/07/18/usb-device-not-recognized

The antivirus has converted your files to system files. You need to enable your system to show system files. If you r using xp: open an explorer, goto tools - folder options - view - scroll down and locate item for folders and option then click on show hidden file and uncheck the next two items below it.
If vista or win 7: open explore- click on organise and folder - look 4 folder option - view - scroll down and locate item for folders and option then click on show hidden file and uncheck the next three items below it

Please, I will need some one to help me with this:

I inserted my External Hard Disk into a friend's computer to copy a file. When I finished, I put it on my computer but all my folders have turned to "shortcuts". Since then, I have tried it on many computers, it is still the same. I have plugged into the USB port and shut down the computer, it is still the same thing.
One thing is that, the hard drive still reads and shows used space.

Re: Please How Do I Retrieve Files From A Broken Flash Drive? by Nobody: 11:24am On Oct 12, 2011
Like I said before. The problem with flsh drives most of the time is the soldered connection to the USB head.

Please: Before trying any of the Software Abracadabra, which can also help you corrupt the data on the flash, rule out any physical defect of the four USB Head connections. This might sound too easy, but I tell you it is that easy.
I have done this several times to recover not only flash drives but USB internet modems too.

Some times, if four of the connections are ok and one is broken, the flash will be recognised by the system, or go on and off when you touch it. If your flash drive's problems is beyond this, or inconsistent file Table (which you can solve using scandisk) then the memory element or circuit board has been affected, the flash is probably gone for good and your only option is data extraction or recovery.

Use Ontrack Easy Recovery Software. It retrieves the files on your hard drive and then you can save them on another drive. That was how i recovered my files when my HDD was misbehaving. My system could see the HDD but it couldn't open it. After using the easy recovery to retrieve my files, i formatted my hard drive and it was back to normal. Hope this helps.

I would like to see you fix an IC that is damaged physically! we are not talking software here, we are talking hardware! That's why its a good idea for us to see the patient before making a diagnosis. without pictures showing the level of damage, one cannot tell for sure.
