I am a fan of BBNaija and I watch it when I am less busy at work, and when I get back from work, as long as I don't have anything pressing to do. It's a form of entertainment and a very good way to relieve stress.

However anytime I log into Nairaland and I see a post about BBNaija, the first sets of comments always consist of people criticizing the show and calling it useless and also insulting those that watch it.

These are the things I have noticed.

The critics are jobless
One thing that stands out is the speed at which these people rush to comment. If they had jobs, they wouldn't be on nairaland all day waiting for BBNaija thread to be posted and then rush to make comments about a show they claim they don't like.

They are hypocrites
These people are the biggest hypocrites ever.

First they claim BBNaija has no value, but these are the same people that spend hours wasting their lives on Nairaland, posting comments and memes that won't add a single kobo to their accounts, and dragging first to comment like primary school kids, yet they have the guts to call BBNaija fans time wasters. These people also invest time into things like football, movies etc that provide the same entertainment value as BBNaija, yet they single BBNaija out as useless and time wasting, as if the football they obsess about has ever added a single kobo to their accounts.

Secondly these people are fond of calling the show immoral. I have watched every season of BBNaija and trust me, you will find more immorality and nudity in your average Nigerian music video, than you will find in BBNaija, yet no one criticizes our music videos that showcase scantily dressed women shaking their buttocks and revealing cleavage.
Additionally, the same people that call the show immoral have pornography videos on their phones and laptops, and are the same people that follow instagram oloshos that dress scantily, but have the guts to call BBNaija immoral.

Most of these people don't even have DSTV or Gotv
Believe it or not, many people on Nairaland are broke. And sadly, it is usually the broke ones that comment a lot. The people that criticize BBNaija clearly don't have access to the show from their homes, and only get information from posts on social media. Because if they did watch the show, they won't call it useless.

Almost everyday the housemates engage in intellectual tasks such puzzles, General knowledge quizzes, debates, plays and so on. The tasks aren't only fun to watch but teach a lot, example is the Arena games yesterday where I learned a lot about finance and geography.

And if you love psychology like I do, the show allows you to really examine human behavior and relationships.

I know people that earn over a million naira per month and they still watch and enjoy BBNaija, but some broke boy who probably still lives with his parents will come on Nairaland to insult the show and the watchers. It's shameful and irritating.

Is there any other insult?

It is funny you call it pornJa. Do you know what _porn is? I have watched 5 seasons of BBNaija and I have never seen any porn. Even when the housemates have sex, which is only in the midnight when the lights are off, they do it under the sheets and they try as much as possible to not make it obvious.

The cameras never show nudity. When a housemate is about to change the camera is quickly shifted away from them.

However there is more porn in your typical holly wood movie, but I don't see you criticizing it. The first episode of game of thrones has practically naked women having sex. These days you don't just see pure sex in movies, you even see gay sex. But I don't see you guys boycotting hollywood movies.

To address your second question, first they aren't locked up in a room, they are in a big house. And what is interesting is you get to see the drama and the manipulation and scheming, and most importantly you get to find out who the winner will eventually be. The same reason people enjoy sports and game shows is also the reason people watch BBNaija; because you get to watch people participate in a game and try to win.

There is also the emotional involvment the audience have by participating in voting housemates they want to keep in the game

To put it simply, BBNaija is like watching a movie, but the movie is real. No one is acting. Everything unfold extemporaneously. In fact this makes it even more interesting than watching a scripted movie.

You have to be really dense to reduce a BBNaija "a porn show" or you clearly have no DSTV or GOTV hence no point of reference.
