Chelsea football club could make a stunning last minute move to sign Nigerian striker, Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest this summer.

Chelsea who were one of the hefty spenders during the summer transfer window, made significant signings which included, Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion, Romeo Lavia from Southampton, Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal, Robert Sanchez from Brighton, Christopher Nkunku, and several others.

However, despite these notable signings, Chelsea found themselves in a precarious position just days before the closure of the transfer window.

This predicament arose due to the unfortunate injury sustained by Christopher Nkunku during the pre-season.

The French international required knee surgery, which will keep him out of action for a substantial period of four-month.

In a bid to address this void in their squad, Chelsea turned to Nottingham Forest during the final 48 hours of the transfer window, as reported by The Athletic.

Chelsea's target– Awoniyi, whose impressive performances for Nottingham Forest in the previous season had caught the Blues' attention.

Awoniyi, a former Liverpool forward, had been Nottingham Forest's standout performer, netting an impressive 10 goals.

His early-season form continued to dazzle as he found the net against formidable opponents such as Arsenal and Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest's ability to retain Awoniyi was put into question, especially as they faced the prospect of losing Brennan Johnson to Premier League rivals Tottenham on transfer deadline day.

In a last-minute move, Chelsea secured the services of young English talent Cole Palmer from reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City, for a substantial fee of €47 million.

This strategic move not only bolstered Chelsea's squad but also underlined the club's commitment to remaining competitive in both domestic and international competitions.

The Blues' pursuit of Awoniyi showcased their astute scouting and transfer strategies, ensuring they continue to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of football.
