Both of them are similar, trying to solve the same problem which is building more performant web apps with JavaScript. React only tends to be more popular with lots of hype, all thanks to Facebook who built it. Even many new JS libraries and Frameworks copy react hooks kind of coding system. That's just to tell you the level of influence React has in the JavaScript universe.

First off, for the past few years, svelte has been the most loved js framework, lots of people have moved on from React to svelte with great success. The community is also older for React. React did a lot of awesome things to shape our mental model of building user interfaces on the web, svelte builds on that with performance, simplicity and developer experience.
I've found that svelte code is much more readable than react and it's reactive system is amazing as well.
More and more libraries will crop up to make svelte on par with React.
As for the job market idk how that will turn out.
All i know is React.js is probably the least ergonomic out of all 3 mainstream (vue, svelte, react) but is still dominating as the most popular

I worked for a company outside using Svelte for 3 years, it's easy but remember Svelte is a compiler when there's bug you need to understand how Svelte works, especially when you're debugging slots and reactive statements. I had to read Compile Svelte in your head to understand the internals but Svelte is easy and simple. React hooks is so complicated, I build extensions in React and performance can be a nightmare especially where hooks keep firing and hig up 1gb of memory.

it's for Chrome extension, I tried using vite, but i guess I wasn't patient enough because I couldn't figure out how to configure somethings, so using Webpack I'll give vite a shot.
