How Do I Solve This Honda Code by theadeola(m): 12:12am On Oct 01, 2023
Hello house.

My 2008 Accord has been giving me a particular issue that has defied all the solutions I know. The car has a code P0011, and the error message is this: A Camshaft Postion- Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1.

I checked online and did some easy fixes; changed the oil and returned it to factory spec (previous owner was using 20W50 and ran fans direct, which I corrected).

Then I cleaned the vtc filter and took out the rocker arm solenoid to service it. Nothing changed. I eventually changed the rocker arm solenoid, as it had a code anyway and the change cleared it.

I did some more research and arrived at the intake camshaft solenoid. I had mine serviced, and it looked like it had been serviced before. It didn't clear the code. I got a replacement part, and that also didn't clear the code.

I am at my wits end, really. I have no rattling sound in the morning at startup, only a rattle at 2000-2500 rpms when driving or when the car is 'raised' at idle.

Pls I need ideas on why else to do to fix this problem.

It's likely a problem with the timing of the engine. Possibilities: timing chain not set correctly, variable cam gear faulty, variable cam solenoid faulty or disconnected.

Start with checking wires to solenoid at the top of engine near the timing chain cover.

If the wiring checks out, test the solenoid by applying 12v to the terminals. If it doesn't click or move, the solenoid is bad and needs to be replaced.

Asides the error code storee, do you have any drivability problems?

Not at all. Runs very fine, with or without ac.

Okay, please how do I apply 12v to the terminals?

I had this same issue.

I remember following all the steps you outlined, but none worked.

I later realised its linked to this part in the engine (from the image below).. you'll see it when you remove the valve cover..

I'm not sure the image is 100% correct.. but its very similar.

I however decided to just leave it since it isn't affecting anything.

Hmm, that's a camshaft phaser. Your car was running fine?

Disconnect the solenoid connector and then using two separate wires, connect one to positive on battery and the other one to negative. Then, carefully touch the two solenoid terminals with the two wires. Ensure the wires remain separate.

Alternatively, you can use a multimeter to check if the solenoid coil is broken by checking for continuity.

Okay, I'll go do this. Thank you very much

Okay, maybe it's a camshaft actuator, as that's the only thing I think is similar to this.
