After I graduated 13yrs ago, I thought Nigeria will be better and I decided not to japa.
Few years ago, I lose hope on Nigeria totally cos Nigeria police and the justice system are terrible too. Since If a country will be good, the justice system and the police force must act well but in Nigeria of today, money and sentiments are determining who win in a law court.
Few months ago, I Japa too, and am enjoying a saner clime now where police is protecting citizens and justice system is working , but yesterday I was sad reading the case of one Tani Olohun in ilorin, who was alleged to defame some people cos of religion.
He was arrested in Ibadan and taken to an area court in ilorin since mid August...I don't know the law well, but I doubt if this is right.
He was remanded in the prison and after almost two months he is now given a strigent bail condition.

The judge want 2 sureties, and the two sureties must be reliable and must be residents within Ilorin
“The two sureties must provide evidence of having N5m in their respective bank accounts. One of the two sureties must be a community leader in Ilorin, while the other must own land with a Certificate of Occupancy properly signed by the government. The two sureties must have evidence of tax payments to the government at least in the last seven years,”.

Pls how can a common man residing in Ibadan given this strigent bail condition in ilorin for a mere defamation case.
Is NJC Dead that judges are misbehaving everywhere cos of money and sentiments?

Lol why do judges get the latitude to make bail conditions so ridiculous? I thought bail conditions are determined based on threat level to society and likelihood the person will flee. I will continue to argue US bail schedules better despite having to pay. Tomorrow Nigerians will wonder why prisons are full of awaiting trial inmates.

Is the a NJC the only body capable of regulating the judiciary. I would assume the State assembly can but the rubber stampers don't move unless instructed by the governor.

You are right...one of the reasons common men suffer in prison
