PRESS RELEASE

UZODINMA FUELING CRISIS IN IMO, AS THUGS LOYAL TO HIM DEMOLISH BUILDINGS BELONGING TO PDP MEMBERS

... No Amount of Harassment, Intimidation Will Cow Our Supporters, Ndi-Imo from Voting Against APC Govt - Imo PDP

It has become imperative to inform the general public that the Governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress and incumbent Governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma is secretly fueling the crisis in the state

Despite the tensed security challenges in the state where over 1000 lives of Imo citizens were reportedly lost under the watch of Hope Uzodinma as Governor, one would have expected the APC government to apply caution to mitigate the situation, but little wonder that Uzodinma and members of his government are deliberately instigating crisis and encouraging insecurity.

In carrying out this dastardly act, Uzodinma on thursday, sent his men to demolish MIMI Place, a subsidiary of All Seasons Hotel belonging to Evang. Mike Ikoku, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, all in attempt to intimidate, harass and cow members of the opposition in the forthcoming Governorship election.

This team of fully armed daredevil thugs loyal to Uzodinma were operating under the cover of security operatives, equipped with an earth moving machine and other dangerous weapons stormed into the premises of MIMI Place and utterly demolised the building without provocation.

It is for the second time in two months that these red-eyed gang of miscreants are invading Evang. Ikoku's property. It should be recalled that in the early hours of Tuesday, 15 August, 2023, this band of street urchins mobilized by Uzodinma, in company of officers of different security outfits, descended on the premises of the All Seasons hotel, where they also demolished the fences of the hotel building and all efforts by management to stop the operation were aborted by the barefaced draconian administration in the state.

Again on Thursday 25, the same team of wild dogs attacked and invaded the Owerri residence of Hon Nze Henry Maduakolam, a PDP chieftain and Traditional Prime Minister of Owerre Nkwoji autonomous community in Nkwerre LGA. They also brought down the fence and part of the structure.

It is pertinent to note that these cruel acts of victimization were executed not in congruence with extant regulations guiding structural development in the state, but were merely aimed at bringing the victims to their knees and punishing them for refusing to support Uzodinma's ill-fated second term bid.

It is known that these demolished structures have been standing even before Gov Uzodinma assumed office in 2020. While the owners were in his good book, the structures did not contravene any rule, obstruct any utility line or deface the aesthetic look of the city. The question then is; how suddenly have they become illegal structures?

It is really unfortunate that within four years of Hope Uzodonma's administration, most of the functional democratic structures in the state have crumbled yet, he does not bother. The characteristic order and tranquility that had prevailed in the state have eloped for a reign of anarchy and ceaseless bloodbath. The situation rather than abetting is worsened by this careless and inordinate second term ambition of the governor.

As a social responsible organisation and protagonist of basic democratic principles, we shall continue to advocate against all machinations of the ruling APC to pull down the remaining structures and render the state morbid. We do not intend to march force with them, all in a bid to cling to power because we believe that power belongs to the people.

Uzodinma and his cohorts should therefore be guided and think of how better to build a strong and egalitarian lmo state for posterity and not to seek power by fire and thunder. It is only when they find solution to the endemic security challenges in the state that other democratic dividends will follow.

Signed
