The National Youth Vanguard (NYV) South-East chapter has lauded the appointment of Senator Oyelola Ashiru as the new Deputy Leader of the Senate.

Harping on Oyelola's status as a ranking Lawmaker from the Northern part of the country, the group described his appointment as "a round peg in a round", stressing that he is eminently qualified to fill up the vacant position earlier occupied by Senator Dave Umahi prior to his appointment as Minister of Works by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The National Vice-President of the group, Engr. Linus Okorie in a statement from its Enugu office on Thursday noted that the Kwara South Lawmaker is detribalised.

Okorie added that Oyelola had proven his capacity in the 9th and current 10th Senate to harmonise all members of the Senate regardless of tribe, religion, political and caucus affiliations.

The appointment of first time Lawmaker Senator Nwebonyi Onyeka as its new Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate previously held by Oyelola was also applauded by the youth group.

Okorie further warned against tribal sentimental comments directed at condemning the new leadership positions adding that the South-East were satisfied with the decisions of the Senate in its leadership reshuffle.

According to him the appointment of Senator Dave Umahi to lead a prime ministry (works) was enough for the South-East geopolitical zone as it would bring about the revamping of the region's decayed infrastructure which is more important to its people.

“May I on behalf of the Executive Council and members of NYV South-East zone, congratulate Senator Ashiru Oyelola on his well merited appointment as the Deputy Senate Leader.

"Over the years we have given a cursory look at his achievements in his constituency and also his relationship with his colleagues at the 9th and current 10th Assembly and we can say with every sense of responsibility that he is worthy of such a position".

"Being an experienced ranking Senator we are confident that he will partner with the Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele to usher in the much needed harmony in the Senate".

Okorie further commended the Senate for appointmenting Nwebonyi Onyeka as the new Deputy Chief Whip and President Tinubu for appointmenting Umahi as Works Minister.

Okorie cautioned against decisive comments;
"We wish to emphasise that the choice of Tinubu and Senate in appointing Umahi and Nwebonyi as the Minister of works and Deputy chief Whip respectively is a well thought-out one.

"We therefore call on our people from the Southeast to refrain from making comments which might derail the peace and unity of our dear Nation. What the South-East needs most is infrastructural development and President Tinubu understands this that was why he appointed Umahi to head the Ministry of Works.

"President Bola Tinubu has shown fairness to the South East despite getting the least votes from the zone. The South East should retrace its steps and stop putting all their eggs in one basket during Presidential elections, Okorie advised.

Similarly, member representing Irepodun State Constituency at the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Olushola Odetundun has described the senator Ashiru as an exemplary lawmaker.
Olushola said that Oyelola is a formidable tool of development to the people of Kwara South, the State and Nigeria.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday Odetundun noted that Oyelola's winning antecedent remains unbeatable in the history of representational politics in the senatorial district.

He enjoined senator Ashiru to keep the flag of development flying with the opportunity of being appointed and upgraded from Deputy Chief Whip to becoming the Deputy Leader in the 10th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

"I congratulate the seven (7) LGAs represented by the senator, for the gift of qualitative leadership God has given us in the person of distinguished Sen. Lola Ashiru." Odetundun said.
