Hello! I am foreign (white American) and have been spending considerable time in Nigeria over the last couple of years. I come here seeking some advice and thoughts—I hope posts from foreigners are acceptable.

Without saying too much, I’ve hit upon inspiration for a business opportunity in the education sector. This is still a kernel of an idea, but would involve the creation of a digital platform and I would seek to hire 1-2 trusted locals initially for some of the operations and promotional work within Nigeria.

I’m hoping to solicit this forum’s thoughts on the potential challenges and pitfalls of operating a business in Nigeria as a foreigner. I would probably not base myself there and I presume the company would be registered outside of Nigeria, though obviously a qualified attorney would be consulted.

I’m aware of the corruption, security issues, etc. What advice would you give to someone considering doing business in Nigeria?

Nigeria is a good place to do your business. There are lots of foreigners who are business owners in Nigeria.
