I am compelled by a sense of despondency to create this thread to see if this issue can finally get to the ears of the electricity distribution companies in the country, especially the PortHarcourt Electricity Distribution Company. For more than three months now, we have not had power supply in my part of Uyo because we were told vandals stole our transformer oil and the armored cable. The community concerned rallied around and bought the oil and the cable, but PHEDC officials have not installed them up till today. I no longer understand the issues causing the refusal of the electricity company officials to fix the transformer.
This narrative is the same in so many places across Akwa Ibom State as a friend who lives at Ikot Abia, Eket, told me they are facing the same issue. The prolonged power outage has grounded the economic activities of the area and has raised the price of goods and services as businesses have to rely on fuel to stay afloat. What does it take to fix a transformer that will delay it for three months or more? Are the residents expected to repair and maintain electricity infrastructure in their areas? PHEDC, there are so many dysfunctional transformers in Uyo and Eket waiting for repair and maintenance and nothing has been done. Does it not affect your profit?

Wait until they will tell you to come to woji or Gra that Phedc is treating them well.
If all of us comes to Woji/Gra,are their spaces to contain us.
Why prioritize others and leave others even when the other places are metered too.?

Ours is 2 mths now,had issues with them initially and while we were concluding settlement, some idiots vandalized the transformer. We have bought the missing items,ọya come and install ,we are coming is now 2 mths old.

Nigeria is a terrible place.

I feel your pain but it seems you guys are not serious enough. Only the oil will not do, who will supply the cables and pay Nepa to send engineers to fix what some useless youth from your area destroyed?

Despite the way we fight nepa in my area in Lagos, once light spoil we quickly gather enough money and provide the necessary fix. Despite the fact that Lagos is crowded transformer in my hood are always fenced with a lock. Someone among the CDA official has the key to the transformer.
Then for areas like yours i think barb wire and security alarm is needed not only fencing the transformer.
I think now that Nepa is privately own, if the youth in your area steal all the cables na look nepa go dey look una. Area wey train their youth to act civil na im go see light grin grin grin grin grin

We have bought both the oil and armoured cable, it is the officials who have refused to turn up to fix it. We have a transformer supervisor in our area, but I think we need to take the idea of having a barbed wire fence or iron-fence with a lock a try.
