What Car Should I Buy by Treborisblack: 10:57pm On Dec 13, 2023
Okay here's the gist
I'm considering buying a car
I stay in benin but also I'm considering moving to Lagos
Cause of the way police harass people driving cars alot
Funny thing is I heard that it's worse in lag sef.
Now my question is which car should I buy that's fancy enough but won't still get me in trouble with police
Or if at all
What can I be doing to avoid police harassment.
I made my money from betting real life shit. So I don't have any real job really and no I also don't do yahoo.
I've been stopped by police several times while in Uber here in benin but after they check my phone thoroughly they let me go
I know I won't be let go easily if I was driving a fancy car, but now I intend on getting one.
So please drop advices thanks
Also if you know the prices of the cars you're sharing I'll like to know

Are you sure it's a car you need right now?

How about investing the money in a lucrative business and try to build from there. Better still buy a land and start building so you can put it up for rent and be making steady money for life.

My two cents though. Do what you feel is best for you at the moment.

Whoever told you car harassment happens in lagos only wants you to fail. Lagos is like the best and safest place to stay in Nigeria. No boko haram, no nothing you literally feel safer. Am even scared to go back home this Xmas.

I've been driving in Lagos for years and police has never harassed me.

Ordinarily, they would stop you for routine checks, the thing is if you cannot identity yourself properly, or your dressing is like that of all these Yahoo boys, that when they'll start harassing you.

So make sure that your car documents are up to date, and try to look smart and cooperate always. And if by chance they stop you, speak fluent English, greet them and ask them how's work. They'll just conclude that you're an office person and wouldn't waste your time.

About the kind of car you should buy, go for any car you can afford to maintain.

Yea but house investment takes up to 12years before reaping profit.
Build a house with 15m
The max you can make per year is 1.4m
That is if all the flats are taken
Wait 11 years before profit. Then still do maintenance.
Building for rent is over rated .

Where is that? Definitely not in Lagos.
If you build in Lagos, under 5 years I can guarantee you will start making profit.

Here in Lagos boys are building houses and a years rent per one bedroom flat is 750 to 800 ( as at two years ago, I don't know about now that there's inflation) hundred. Then a flat is from 1.2 m x this by the number of flat in the building. In Lagos, before a house is completed, it's already gone. As in.. people are rushing it. All these small small Yahoo boys are the ones taking this new houses. Rent sells fast here in Lagos.

Remember it's going to be yours for life and landed properties appreciate. Old Flats that used to go for 250 those days are now competing with new houses at 500, 650. Check am. In the nearest future you'll be planning to settle down. At least you'll have something to sustain yourself and a family.

A car is a liability and will keep digging into your fiannces for maintenance time to time.

Your advice should center around that .

You didn’t even factor cost of the land the house is standing on o. And for you to make 1.4m on a house regardless of the location , the property will worth around 25/30m…
So it’ll take average of 17 years without factoring maintenance cost to start making profits …except you want to resell it- this will only be profitable if the area is extremely developed.

House for a young person is not advisable atall except the person in question is not resourceful ..

He can’t start making money after 5years in Lagos,
What’s the cost of land ?
Cost of erecting the building ?
Let’s put that at 30m.

And say he makes 2m yearly from that , let’s say maintenance takes 200k yearly , that’s 1.8m ..

It’ll take you 15yrs to start making profit ..

And yes I agree to the bolded.

However i strongly disagree with your last statement, if everyone thinks like that nobody go dey use car o .
Just buy what you can manage..
