While I strive for peace and unity, a recent experience compels me to speak out against the disturbing trend of forced political loyalty in our Oron community. This is not about joining issues, but about upholding the very essence of democracy - the right to freely choose and support the candidate we believe in.

My support for the candidate I endorsed during the Oron Union elections was born from careful consideration and a heartfelt belief in their potential to serve our community best. It was a decision taken after thorough consultation and deep conviction, not coercion or manipulation.

Yet, I have been subjected to unwarranted criticism and scrutiny for exercising this fundamental right. My crime? Daring to back a leader who resonates with not only myself, but also with a significant portion of our youth.

Those who seek to silence dissent through pressure tactics forget that this is not a competition, but a community. There are countless ways to serve, and each individual's contribution, regardless of their choice of candidate, should be valued and respected.

We must remember that even the most celebrated leaders of today once faced rejection and setbacks. President Buhari, Senator Akpabio etc– their paths to success were paved with failed attempts and unyielding determination. Should we then deny others the same right to try, to strive, to learn from past experiences and come back stronger? The inquiry arises: what transgression is committed by endorsing a candidate whom one believes in and who resonates with the aspirations of the majority, particularly the youth?

My role in the Oron Union elections was solely that of a supporter, not a candidate. While I was born in the early 90s, I am confident in my ability to make informed decisions and exercise my democratic right. To those who demand conformity and seek to punish dissent, I ask: Is this truly the democratic spirit we aspire to?

By silencing individual voices, we stifle the very essence of progress. Diversity of opinion is not a threat, but a foundation for growth. Let us celebrate the freedom to choose, to support, and to learn from even those whose paths diverge from our own.

Let us, in the spirit of true community, embrace inclusivity and respect the democratic right of every individual to make their own choices. Only then can we build a stronger, more united Oro for all.
