...As Community Pays Last Respects

In a poignant ceremony held on December 29, 2023, at St. Patrick Primary School in Uya Oro Utumong, Oron LGA, Akwa Ibom State, the community bid farewell to Late Madam Eno Effiong Bassey, the revered mother of Chief Victor Matthew, the YPP candidate in the recently concluded 2023 general elections.

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Cathedral of the Cross Circuit, Diocese of Oron, orchestrated the burial proceedings. The solemn ceremony saw the participation of esteemed officiating ministers, including Circuit Presbyter Very Rev. Ini A. Attih, Rev. Etim J. Esak of MCN Favour Land, Rev. Uduak O. Essang, and Dcns. Atim Ben Eningeno. The sermons drew from poignant verses—Isaiah 40:6-7, 1 John 2:15-17, John 14:1-4—resonating deeply with the gathered mourners.

Madam Eno Effiong Bassey's passing left a void felt by relatives, friends, and a multitude of others who gathered to pay their respects. Survived by her son Chief Victor Matthew, daughters Glory Matthew and Peace Victor Matthew, grandson Victor Matthew Jr., granddaughter Jumaima Victor Matthew, and others including Faith Ake Amba, David Ake Amba, Precious Ake Amba, and Amba Ake Amba, her legacy reverberates through those she touched.

According to different goodwill messages read, the legacy of Madam Eno Effiong Bassey extends beyond her familial bonds. Her altruism and dedication to community welfare shone brightly through various charitable initiatives, notably her contributions to the development of education and healthcare within the region. Her absence will undoubtedly be felt in these endeavors, yet her impact remains etched in the hearts of those she supported and guided, leaving an indelible mark on the fabric of the community. As the community navigates this loss, her teachings of compassion and resilience will continue to inspire and guide future generations.

The solemn yet deeply poignant ceremony served as a heartfelt tribute, uniting the community in honoring the life and memory of a beloved matriarch whose influence touched many.
