Ojukwu

THE need for unity among Ndigbo took the centre stage yesterday in Enugu, as prominent Igbo leaders converged at the residence of Ikemba Nnewi, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu to celebrate his 78th birthday .

Although the former Biafran leader had been away in the past 11months due to ill health ,  but his absence  was not a hindrance to Igbo leaders, religious leaders and friends who gathered to wish him more happy years and quick recovery.

Present at  the event  were the leader of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike ,were Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha,  his Anambra State counterpart, Peter Obi, National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh; former Governor of Imo State Ikedi Ohakim;

Others were  the former Governor of  the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Soludo, Publisher of Champion Newspapers, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, among others.

In his address,  Okorocha declared that the day the Igbo decided to come together, other groups in Nigeria would bow for them, stressing that disunity had torn the zone apart.

According to him, the problem of Ndigbo was themselves  because they have not come together and work as one and queried what the Igbo were  looking for that is hindering them from coming together.

Okorocha continued that day of the Igbo looking for pity and crying of marginalisation was over because no one can marginalise the Igbo, rather they are the ones marginalising themselves.

Okorocha advised the Igbo to shun violence or adopting methods by other Nigerians to achieve their aims because violence would not take the Igbo anywhere.

He described the celebration of Ojukwu’s birthday as a celebration of excellence and to give honour to whom honour is due.

Obi, observed that whatever progress Nigeria had made today was as a result of the sweat of the Igbo as it were the Igbo that spearheaded the struggle for Nigeria’s independence.

Obi noted that the Igbo were ahead of all other groups in Nigeria before and after independence and challenged the Igbo to reinvent themselves and take their rightful position in the scheme of things in Nigeria.

In her remarks, Ojukwu’s wife, Bianca, said she was overwhelmed by the show of love for her husband and the mammoth crowd that turn out for the event that was supposed to be a private one.

Words.
But when are we going to actually put them to action. When will our disunity end?
I think they should go and bring Gov TA Orji first. He is still missing!

"We did", "we've done", "we were". Very well, nice, good, but what we want to hear is "we are".

We Igbos are our own worst enemies! I'm in nigeria  right now, (Igboland to be precise) and I'm beginning to loose hope in the Igbo nation because of so much division,,,,, a case in point is the dude chino11 and his Anambra supremacy.

As a result of this division in Igboland, I'm even considering starting a new Igbo clan somewhere in the Amazon. I'm learning a lot right now and the main reason why Biafra was defeated may not be unconnected with this division and individualism embarassed

lol @ other people bowing down to ibo people. A clear case of delusions and the usual low self esteem. What ever you do, you do for yourself and your own people, not for others beyond your tribal borders to envy and bow down.

This is what you get with ignorant and tribalistic leaders.

In what way was the ibo people ahead of other folks in Nigeria before a d after independence? Just in what freaking way. Must these people base their past, future and everything under the sun on tribalism and poor understanding of the history on Nigeria and their own histroy? And this coming from a leader and a state governor?

You are where you are today for a reason and this is one of the many reasons why. It's always about other people and never ibo people's actions and their decisions . How sad and pathetic.

Obviously, what he meant was that other group will respect Ndigbo as a focused people.

(Rochas is allowing too much pidgin English to enter his normal speech)

Are Igbos God that other group will bow down and worship them? Abeg o.

U can cry marginalisation etc
U can sack civil servants that are not from your state
The fact that a politician opens his mouth and chats such rubbish is really crass !
What happened to the republican spirit if the Igbos as epithomised by the  Ziks and Ekwuemes,
I am really disappointed in rochas, the fact that he can say this shows that he either has no nationwide ambitions or he is totally inept of how to go about it.
For Obi i'm really not surprised.

I think Igbo politicians play a big role in marginalising themselves.

Alhaji, I don't think he meant what he said. If he did, it means he has joined the league of bigots (Sanusi and co) and as such, should forget about running this country as the President.

Stop with the English crap, we know what he said, it's written in plain English.

The question is, what's uniting ibo people got to do with other tribes bowing down to ibo people? Is denigrating other people tribalism and bigotry the only way to unite ibo people?

Obviously, you are the one with reading and comprehension problem.

There's a difference between bow for them(okorocha's words) and bow down for them(your words)

Anyway, I'm supposed to ignore you guys, but I just couldn't let this go.

Figuratively, other tribes are bowing for Igbos.
To be at the level they are now, even after the civil war, goes to show they're no ordinary people.
Take it or leave it.

@ onlycrap

Shut your damn mouth you dumb and clueless I'd.iot. Obviously if you are bowing down, it's because of your own silly and moronic decisions, mistakes and silly adventures, you put your fokinnnn self in that position. Blam your damn self for your own stupidity.

If you like, get yourselves out of the hole you sank yourselves in and don't if you don't feel like, that's your fokinnnn problem. You clowns must be really on crack to think other people give a shitttttttt about your sorry and pathetic ever crying a's's.

You people can not do anything without pointing fingers and putting other people down, the fact is, the more rubbish you wish on other people, the more you remain where your are while the people you wish against progress ahead of you. After decades at the bottom of the pile, you clowns should know by now that this is your portion. What you wish against others is what you get.

Losers.
Re: Igbo Leaders Urge For Unity At Ojukwu's Birthday Bash by Nobody: 11:51pm On Nov 06, 2011
in pidgin english, i bow for you, basically means i respect you, it does not mean, i will bow down for you, this shows a lot of you are out of nigeria, and do not understand nigerian english.
Re: Igbo Leaders Urge For Unity At Ojukwu's Birthday Bash by Francis5: 11:57pm On Nov 06, 2011
Bow for you = respect you
Bow down for your = worship you
I am sure Okorocha means the first ad he is right. Igbos will get the respect of others if they come together, much more than they are now. Does not mean that others are actually more united.

I'm glad you used the word figuratively because your absurd rubbish is just what it is.

What level are you at right now? You mean dumping your villages to go leech on other people for your daily bread?

Though your semantics is bogus, but let's just play with it for a sec'.

Do you do things because it's for your own good or because you want other tribes to bow and respect you?

Doing things based on the fact that you want other people to recognize you and to accept you means toe are insecure with yourself and ability to do good, it means you lack self esteem and you need relevance and acceptance by other people.

It's the same low self esteem problem you people have been struggling with, we point this out all the time. Ibo people don't work with their own clock, they function based on other peoples clock and considerations.

Either way, it sucks.

I am just wondering why "bow" just turned out to be a word to generate so much attention and anger like its being expressed by the likes of Eke ile (hope this is correct spelling) when bowing down even postrating on the floor has been a common expression of some of the tribes in Nigeria as a sign of respect shocked. Is the issue the "bow", the "Igbo", the "Governor" or the combination of all these words? Is respect no longer what each person owes another regardless of differences in tribe, colour, religion, status, and so on? If bow which means respect as expressed in Governor Okorocha's speech is the problem, then it points to that same fact that one of the problems we face in this country is "differences disrespect' sad.

I strongly believe that 'bow' became an offence not because it is bad in its usage in that statement but because of who used it. Obviously if your (each person discussing this topic) governor had made the same statement, you probably wouldn't consider that 'bow' to mean an "error"  undecided.

Now this is the mindset we all have to flush out of this country to move forward - not basing out judgement of issues on differences; be it tribe, religion, class and what have you.

We have lived like this for over five decades with nothing to show for it yet when this kind of issue comes up we quickly take sides based on our groups.

I do not think its right for someone to come to a public place like this to call another tribe losers embarassed. What did you win if I may ask ?

Let's assume you are the 'winner' as you want us to believe, for all these decades you happen to be the 'winner', how is Nigeria? What really can we boast of in this country as a result of your being a 'winner'- bad roads, no electricity, bribery and corruption, non-payment of workers' salaries, strikes and protest, no fuel-kerosene-diesel in the same rich oil producing country, terrorism and militancy, visionless-greedy-selfish government regimes, abundance of illiteracy and poverty, the list is countless angry sad shocked embarassed cry?

Yet in the looser'ship' position of your losers, they have built and developed cities like your state capitals. In their disunity they have driven poverty to a large extent far away from their homes. They made great things out of nothing smiley wink  tongue.

Imagine if they decide to come together, if you are an honest person, then you can agree with me that Governor Okorocha's speech was not out of place.

The problem is not whether what he said is right or wrong rather your interpretation of what he said which depends on the level of your sentiment. Whichever way you see it, however way you interpret it, the truth remains that if those Igbos come together you will bow(respect) for what they can do! smiley cool

Let us accept our differences and acknowledge our individual strengths cool. Our unity is in our differences. Our strength is in our diversity and not in our tribes. Variety they say is the spice of life. Arise, oh compatriots and make this nation a better place for us all! kiss
