Please I need every possible suggestion to cope with the problem I'm facing. From the 5th to 7th of this month, I took maxiquine and paracetamol together 2 tabs each, morning and night to treat malaria. I noticed soon that the malaria fever was resolving, but was no longer having spontaneous bowel movement to defecate. I became severely constipated and drastically changed my diet to include more fruits, veggies etc but still, I noticed that I still had to strain alot to remove very little waste from my body. Last week was on bisacodyl suppositories, which did help me to expel the solid waste, but now that i've exhausted the dose I was given, I still notice no spontaneous bowel movement happening. It's been almost 3 weeks now, unable to have necessary bowel movements to evacuate waste from my body. This has never happened to me before and I'm now often tired, nauseous, depressed over how terribly this malarial drug has damaged my bowel movement. Please nairalanders, I've no money as I'm single with just a teaching job I'm managing to keep body and soul together. So my question to the medical practitioners goes this way...(I) what long term laxatives may I be using, if may to cope with my dysfunctional bowel! (Ii) is there any type of special diet I need to follow to increase the rate of spontaneous bowel movement? (III) please are there any exercises which I may carry out to regain bowel motility?

Please @Curious 345, are you certain that the problem would be fully resolved if I buy the paraffin oil and take it as you have suggested here? Do you think my regular bowel movement would be fully restored?

Hi were you self medicating or taking doctors prescriptions? If you were, please see a doctor for proper tests to determine the problem. Those meds you mentioned shouldn't cause you constipation, that's not a typical side effect for either of them

You can regulate your bowels using pawpaw fruit and seeds. Eat the ripe fruit on an empty stomach first thing in the morning, you can eat as much as you want. Pawpaw is very useful for the digestive system. Chew some of the seeds as well, just a couple seeds daily

If you can't afford daily pawpaw, you can take a table spoon of castor oil, it has laxative effects as well. Ultimately, please see a doctor, there might be underlying issues
