Nigerians have taken to social media to mock South Africa after the Super Eagles qualified for the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at the expense of the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday night.

Both teams went into penalties after 120 minutes of football ended 1-1. Nigeria came out the better side with goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali saving two penalties to become the hero of the night.

Prior to the match, an old video showing South Africans calling Nigeria ‘Generator Republic’ resurfaced on social media.

Following Nigeria’s qualification to the final, Nigerians are now mocking South Africans, saying the Generator Republic, an allusion to Nigeria’s poor electricity supply, has knocked out the Republic with constant electricity supply.
