Redeemed Christian Church Of God (RCCG): Nigeria’s Leading Pentecostal Church by FactsZoneAfrica: 4:08pm On Feb 18
The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) stands as the wealthiest and most renowned Pentecostal church in Nigeria, holding the distinction of being the largest private property owner in the country.

Despite its immense material success, the church remains dedicated to three fundamental objectives since 1981, when transformative leadership took the reins from its semi-literate founder.

These objectives are: i) aspiring to reach heaven, ii) actively working to bring as many people as possible along on the spiritual journey, and iii) striving to have a member of the RCCG in every family across nations.

Underpinned by these guiding goals, the Redeemed Christian Church of God has rapidly ascended to become the fastest-growing church not only in Nigeria but throughout Africa.

With an impressive network of 23,880 congregations or parishes within Nigeria, the church’s influence extends far beyond its borders, boasting nearly an equivalent number of congregations globally.

Remarkably, the RCCG has established a presence in 165 countries worldwide, solidifying its identity through missionary expansion.

This global outreach has become the defining characteristic of the RCCG, setting it apart as a trailblazer in church growth.

The successes achieved by the Redeemed Christian Church of God are not only notable but are actively and persistently emulated by other churches, both within and outside the borders of Nigeria.

About Redeemed Christian Church of God’ The Largest Pentecostal Church in Nigeria

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), the largest Pentecostal church in Nigeria, is an evangelical entity that also identifies with Pentecostalism.

Aligned with mainstream evangelical denominations, its belief system revolves around the conviction that humanity is currently navigating desperate times, serving as a prelude to the imminent end times.

The RCCG perceives the end times as a transformative period marking the conclusion of history as known.

The urgency of God’s program for the present generation intensifies a sense of eschatological anxiety, a driving force behind the missionary endeavors of the Nigerian evangelical community.

Believing that the devil is actively working to undo God’s work in Christ and ensnare humanity in hell, the RCCG actively engages in recruiting believers to counteract these perceived activities of the great evil one.

The establishment of missionary schools, particularly the Redeemed Christian School of Mission (RECSOM) in 1993, exemplifies the church’s commitment to training future missionaries in cross-cultural evangelization strategies.

The September 2012 graduation of 1,364 missionaries equipped from RECSOM underscores the church’s global mission, focusing on converting predominantly non-Africans to the RCCG’s vision and mission.

Currently, around 60 countries lacking an Redeemed Christian Church of God congregation are the focal point of the church’s Department of Mission, functioning as the foreign ministry equivalent, coordinating the activities of a dedicated Christian force determined to proselytize globally for Christ.

Beyond traditional missionary efforts, the RCCG embraces modern media technologies as a powerful extension of its evangelical initiatives.

Operating three television networks—Redemption Television Ministry, Redeemed Television, and Dove Media—the church broadcasts its Christian message locally and internationally, complementing these with radio broadcasts through various outlets.

Media production stands as a robust component of the RCCG’s evangelical strategy, targeting the media-saturated generation.

At its core, the Redeemed Christian Church of God adheres to the Gospel of Christ, claiming strict alignment with Christian scriptures in its tenets.

Despite ordaining women to positions of spiritual authority, the church prohibits practices such as alcohol consumption, smoking, divorce, and women wearing long pants.

Jesus Christ is presented as the primary guide, with Pastor E.A. Adeboye, the 71-year-old leader, recognized as a humble and accessible figure affectionately known as Daddy G.O. (General Overseer) by his followers.

In the early 1980s, the RCCG played a role in the “emerging church” movement, incorporating popular culture, higher education, and intentional proselytization of the affluent.

Graduates from this period, now influential figures in Nigeria’s economic and political landscape, actively support the church’s evangelical activities.

The monthly Holy Ghost Service, initiated in 1983, serves as the flagship of the RCCG’s evangelical calendar, attracting nearly half a million attendees each first Friday of the month.

This event, characterized as the pillar of the RCCG’s global missionary movement, has facilitated cultural adaptation and “reserve mission,” making the Redeemed Christian Church of God a successful Pentecostal and missionary force, extending its reach from Africa to various parts of the world.

How foolish and materialistic,so called Christians can be?
No one is talking about how well the work of God is being done in the church in matters of soul winning for Christ, and reaching out to the less privileged and downtrodden.
All we care is how wealthy a pastor is.
How deeply the spirit of materialism has seeped into the fabrics of Christiandom.
In a certain Nollywood movie,Lucifer told an agent to use money very well even in churches and make Christians value it more than their souls, because the world worships money.
