Anyone who lives in a city and have space to farm is not poor and Food is not their problem.

It's a LIE.

There are millions of people being affected by high food prices, including those living in houses with space outside to farm! Many families are not eating the way they used to eat before, and there is more rationing!

Plus there are MANY areas where you see poor people living in tenement buildings with compounds outside, or in a shared courtyard, or backyard, that can be converted to farmland.

You sound like some kid that hasn't been around.

Having space to farm doesn't mean you must live in a duplex with a gate and large compound etc.

Even where I used to live in Benin, there are so many places you see were folks can put a small farm in front of their compound and ring fence it, but it's just red soil or covered with weeds, or they cement the place. Like this place below. That small place they cemented to the left can be a small farm.

See free land that can be farmed on below.

You want to tell me the people living here have no problem with rising food prices?

So you plant on a land that's not your own?
Say you plant had an plot

What exactly can you plant on a half plot that would even affect your food cost by 5% per year
Re: The Easiest Way To End Hunger - Turn Your Compound To A Farm! by Rostikol: 8:04am On Feb 28

A LOT!!!!!

If you know what you're doing. You don't need a lot of space to start a tomato farm, and you can make good money selling fresh tomatoes.

Thank you my brother.

We need to become Africans again.

We've lost touch with who we are. That is why we are in this situation.

We have NO REASON to be going hungry when there is no famine.

Its not as easy as you say, I remember seeing a post like these years back, was still living with my parent we had a big land, so i decided to plant yam, tomatoes and potatoe, Bro the harvest was the joke of the century i tried again turns out poor

This made me conclude farming has techniques and not just any hand can plant lipsrsealed

Omo, these days you can go online and learn how to farm properly in a small space using all kinds of techniques. You can even set up a greenhouse farm with guaranteed yields. You don't just rush into it blind. That land in your compound is the same land on the farm outside town or village.

You are the one that is wrong. That's a very noble idea to plant around our homes. Growing up my mother as a nurse planted food in our house here in Lagos. It was so abundant that we had to give out. From plantain, banana, ewedu, okro, ugwu, pepper, tomatoes, fish, snails, even herbs like lemon grass and moringa. My neighbor supplied us abundant avocados. Our family friend gave us abundant garri, so what is the big deal in planting around our homes. You water all the plants in less than 30 minutes. We really enjoyed fresh food. Whatever job you do, you can plant food. But this generation just wants to sit down and be pressing phones and demanding everything from the government.
At least you should have shown us your compound farm.

You're talking as if most people own the property. You. Can't be renting a house and say you want to start farming. You leased as rental to live not farm. Mist places in lagos don't even have such space . And the landlord might not agree. It's those that live in villages that have space to farm and are being disturbed by herdsmen and kidnappers.

Tell your govt to ensure security amd farmers would be able to produce more

The Easiest Way To End Hunger Is To Turn Your Compound To A Farm!

You walk around these neighbourhoods where people are complaining of hunger, and you see in their front compounds and in their backyards, LAND JUST LYING FALLOW. undecided

Why?

Convert that land to a MINI-FARM.

Plant tomatoes. Plant yam. Plant fruit seeds. Plant melon seeds. That's Egusi. Plant okro!

Start a small poultry in your backyard for your chicken and eggs.

What the hell is wrong with us as a people?

It is all this ''I must be oyinbo by force'' that is hurting us.

Before colonial rule and this our oyinbo system that followed, our ancestors never depended on the kings and chiefs for their food.

They planted their food everywhere they saw land.

Their houses would have an area to plant food somewhere. Houses would have yam barns to store yams in the backyard.

The only time you hear in our history that people were hungry was when there was a FAMINE, ie no rain.

There was nothing like abundant rain and fertile land, yet people going hungry. Impossible!

Today you walk around these neighbourhoods and just wonder, ''why can't these guys plant onions or cassava in this place''?

Urban farming is as African as Proverbs and Palmwine.

It even beautifies the environment!

If even one-fifth of us decided to convert our premises to mini farms, food will be become abundant in the country and very cheap!

Urban Farming

Do not listen to nay sayers or respond to detractors. Some people only like to complain and never for once try to proffer a solution to their problems or try something new.
If I live in Nigeria, I will have small farms.
Even people in the villages are arogant and refusing to far, they would rather open new topics on NL how they bought two pieces of tomatoes for N600 in Luzada market.

Rosstikobo eleriibu, it is obvious that you know nothing about farming nowadays that seeds are patented and supplied to Nigeria by foreign companies.

For your information you ignorant boy, the seeds of that pepper you see in the market now cost dollars

Dollars?

So you’re trying to tell me that all those farmers in the village are paying dollars for their seeds?

You guys should stop this nonsense please.

In my village I don’t see anybody paying dollars 💵 for their farming!

I did not ask for your mothers farm, I asked for yours since you are an advocate of farming everywhere and anywhere by everybody to reduce hunger that you guys did not acknowledge it exist in today's Nigeria.

Where is your own farm and the farm of the OP.

Most mothers in the village do farm so OP is not talking about mothers but young generations like you that sag their pants roaming the street.

Calm down. First not everyone's mother is from the village. I talked about my mum who was a nurse but using our compound in Lagos for farming as a hobby. I was specific about Lagos so others can see the possibility of starting something even in their backyard without the need to invest heavily in land acquisition. Secondly, I commented on this same thread that I am starting a pepper farm using the hydroponic method because I noticed the gap in food availability. If you read to understand and not just react, you will see I already acknowledged that there is a gap that needs to be filled in respect of food. Thirdly, I wonder how you assume a lot of things - I am not of your generation nor a boy sagging pants like you roaming the streets. I am female and gainfully employed and still want to continue agriculture in addition to my business. I hope you understand now. No be everything be fight and politics.

Haba!!! Go to Ajah market and buy the seeds you need. I understand there are companies doing that but that's not the norm for now.
