Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, of Anambra State has Commissioned the the 5.1 km Port-harcourt Street and Niger Street Onitsha in, Onitsha South Local government area.

Performing the function, Governor Soludo highlighted the significance of the road to Onitsha residents and environs being the largest commercial hub in West Africa, noting that his government is deliberate about regenerating Onitsha to its former glory.

The Governor who noted that 247 kilometres of roads have so far being completed out of the 450 kilometres of roads awarded across the state, maintained that the roads are guaranteed to last a minimum of 20 years

Governor Soludo therefore charged the residents to keep the roads and drainages clean to enable free flow of water to river Niger, noting that the road was formerly in a state of disrepair.

Governor Soludo further pointed out that construction of the two roads was highly significant due its potential of boosting commercial activities in the area as well as aid smooth transportation of goods to the Onitsha Main market.

The Governor promised that his administration would continue to provide the enabling environment for traders to thrive by abolishing illegal levies imposed on the people saying it was in fulfillment of his campaign promises of eliminating touts from the streets.

Earlier, in bis remarks, the Commissioner for works Engr ifeanyi Okoma thanked the Governor for the fulfilment of his campaign promises as well as his passion of simultaneous construction of about 450km of roads across the state.

While pledging the support of traders, support for his administration, the President General of Anambra State Amalgamated Traders Association ASMATA, Chief Humphrey Anuna expressed delight in the construction of the road that leads to the main market and prayed for continued wisdom on the Governor.

The project Managers Foretex Engineering company and their counterparts handling the project also thanked the governor for finding them worthy to execute the contract, saying that the project would boost commercial activities in the area.

The occasion witnessed a dramatic turn when the Governor requested that representatives of keke drivers and shuttle buses to cut the tape, assisted by the clergy.

The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Barr JPC Anetoh, Chief Protocol officer, Hon Chinedu Nwoye among others were at the occasion.

Anambra people are easy to please, they don't ask much from their governors. See how happy they are for just road, to show you how important it is to them.

They provide for themselves house, water and food.

They might end up loving Soludo same way they loved Ngige till he joined APC.

The dancing you are seeing is because the governor is there and Nigerians are always somehow filled with joy anytime they see a popular figure. I was also present at a road commissioning in Surulere Lagos and there were canopies there because Femi Gbagabiamila was coming for the commissioning. It's the same thing everywhere.
