Udogie Slammed By Italian Media After Disappointing Venezuela Performance by Christology(m): 12:49am On Mar 24
Some parties have questioned Udogie's quality for Italy leading up to the 2024 Euros
Destiny Udogie, the promising Tottenham full-back who made headlines with his move to the Premier League last summer, found himself under scrutiny by Italian media following his lackluster performance in Italy's friendly win over Venezuela. The criticism has raised doubts over his readiness for the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament.

At just 21 years old, Udogie had already made significant strides in his career, impressing under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. His debut season in the Premier League showcased his talent, with two goals and three assists in 24 appearances. However, his recent outing for Italy against Venezuela has raised concerns about his readiness for the international stage.

Udogie criticised by Italian media
Italian newspapers offered varying assessments of Udogie's performance against Venezuela, highlighting both his strengths and weaknesses.

La Gazzetta dello Sport's Assessment
La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote about Udogie’s performance against Venezuela, saying: “The start was disorientating for him too, but then he showed strength and willingness to help, even if he remained a bit frenetic.”

Corriere dello Sport's Critique
Corriere dello Sport were a little less forgiving than their Milanese counterparts, drawing attention to his errors against Venezuela, saying: “He played for Azzurri at Wembley and since he’s having a leading season in London, with Tottenham, Spalletti gave him another chance. At 22 he smells the European Championship, but the start pushed him back.”

“In the build-up from the back he was anticipated by Aramburu and from there came the penalty. A lack of attention which fortunately for him didn’t turn into a disadvantage.”

Tuttosport's Disappointment
Tuttosport were the least impressed, suggesting that the Tottenham full back needs to bounce back after such a disappointing performance, commenting: “Ready, go and he lost the ball which put Buongiorno in trouble, landslide on Rondon.”

“First midfielder when Chiesa widens, then ensnared in the Venezuelan web of midfield, Tottenham’s Udogie never managed to get off to a quick start, the quality that makes him most appreciated. But Udogie is only 21 years old. He will make up for it.”

Despite the criticism, Udogie's age and potential were acknowledged by all publications. While his performance against Venezuela may have been disappointing, there is optimism that he can learn from the experience and come back stronger. With the European Championship on the horizon, Udogie has the opportunity to prove his critics wrong and showcase his talent on the international stage.
