I am actually tired of abroad.

I miss Naija everyday.

Money is not everything.

I just want to get some more skills and maybe come back.

This is an interesting topic that deserves wide exposure to get real life opinions of different Nigerians based on their real life experiences and to enlighten those planning to make a move, but the issue is, Nigerians are not honest people when it comes to issues like this. Even if they are suffering and regretting, they will never tell, they will not even share their regrets with their closest friends and relatives talk more of sharing it with strangers.

They can only share such regrets with someone far better than them whom they strongly believe would assist them, if not forget it.

But from my own experience, I would advice Nigerians earning good income in Nigeria not to abandon it outrightly to Japa with study route to countries like; UK or Canada. If you get a job offer with sponsorship you can go but do not abandon your lucrative job in Nigeria for a study route to UK or Canada right now.

UK is filled already, the only available jobs for those that are not in healthcare and not top IT experts is care job, security job and all those odd jobs that will hardly earn you 2,000 pounds a month. If you convert 2000 pounds to Naira it will look big and juicy, but remember you are not going to be spending the money in Naira? By the time you deduct tax, deduct bills like gas, electricity, car insurance if you have one, feeding and rent, you will definitely need another odd job to meet up with your bill, which means you will be working almost round the clock just to pay bills to remain in the UK.

Canada is not much different, just slightly better than UK but the extreme weather condition in some provinces will make you regret ever moving to Canada.

The best route to Japa to UK or Canada now is work visa if you are working and earning well in Nigeria, but if you are struggling or in an uncertain job in Nigeria with no future or job security, you can Japa even with study route because the future of Nigeria looks scary with the crop of people in charge of federal government of Nigeria now.
good talk. Thanks

You know nothing. Who told you that at 45+ you can't get a job in UK? Unless if his connection is not legit.
But UK folks keep complaining about employers needing UK experience.

Well, I am a teenager. Still pretty naive. You can't blame me.

Oh...ok. My apologies if you feel my post was too harsh.

Let me explain further. If your dad can find his way there, and younare still under 21, e don better for you. See...you will get job easily and be independent. You are moving out of your dad's care sooner than expected.

Try to check "uk colleges apprenticeships", you will be amazed. It isna work-study program. You will go to school and learn a skill. The hours you spend learning the skill will count in your CGPA. You are gonna be paid also. Thats sure job for you.

Their health care is one of the cheapest and best in the world. Think about it.

You can go to anywhere. Do you know the number of career conferences I have missed because there was no visa appointment date in Naija?

See...leave the man alone. He is only going to work hard for the first 8 years innthe UK. As soon as he is a British citizen, thats it. All he need to do now is to manage his stress very well.

You will only do menial jobs for long if you japa illegally or didn’t have the right skills from Nigeria. Most people i know that came to Canada with permanent residency are doing job they were doing in Nigeria. Some of them had to start with menial jobs sha (2-4 months) before getting their dream jobs.

But there are people who still japa with visit visa or claim asylum. They don’t regret the menial jobs cos they are still able to save than what they saved in Nigeria.
What kind of skill can one learn broh

What makes life kinda difficult is that majority of Nigerians have entrepreneurial spirit in them and here in Nigeria you can be an entrepreneur without adhering to government policy which is very impossible abroad. Also it's difficult to get a professional job there with the barest minimum qualifications like in Nigeria.

Wagbayi. If anything, the restrictions on having your own business is a serious hindrance. Besides, its no joke to secure a professional job, you have to be highly skilled with lots of experience. You would be worked for every penny and its only few countries/companies that allow black men reach top managerial positions. The average salary outside IT and medicals still hovers around €3500 - €5000. Not so big if you have a big comfortable 3 bedroom flat with family with kids, you still have to discipline your spending squarely unlike in Nigeria where things are a lot cheaper.

The upside is the good life and ability to acquire things you otherwise can't afford in Nigeria thanks to the bountiful subscription payments that abound. You need #100,000,000,000 (one hundred million) to buy a Land Rover defender in Nigeria but need only half of that to lease and pay installmental payments for same car in the west. Its also nice when you see Nigerianss already buying houses and letting out AirBnBs in Europe. Just know they've invested many years and toil to attain such levels but its still all on lease subscription payment.

Sir, if you are sure of your statistics you can go ahead and mention their roles and the
companies they work. Working in a big or established companies don't guarantee you must earn very high. It's just packaging or showing off.. even during job interviews, the last question is usually how much you hope to earn and you cannot possibly tell your employee you wish to earn up to 200 and 500k a months and expect a call back. Even people who work in tech companies usually get there through expenditures

All this grammar DOESN'T negate the fact that there are people who earn 1m+ naira working in Nigeria. That's an undeniable fact.

There is a thin line between lucrative Job in 9ja and menial job in abroad....
Take for example.... A salary job of 500k monthly after all deductions in 9ja....its a good job to you..
In the UK, you can earn as much as 12 pounds per hour for factory jobs... If you work 8hrs, u earn 96 pounds.... And for 3 days work, u can get an equivalent of 1 month 9ja salary.....
So the menial job abroad pays more than the office or lucrative job in 9ja in some cases... Though not all.....

It's pointless as you're not spending naira in the UK. So, stop the conversion.

Can someone earning nearly or more than 1.2M suddenly start begging for money?
Bro, I mean... Well, anything can happpen.

Why not? Chew on this .... in reality... the cost of living pretty much is based on USD. When did he start earning N1.2M? ... how much was that in USD at the time? He was living a lifestyle that needed X USD to support. Same salary .... but since then the Naira depreciated by 65%? ... which means he is earning 65% less in USD . N1.5M salary can no longer maintain his life style .... pay his bills .. maintain his car etc.... he is suffering with no end in sight.... why won't he be begging to help pay his bills? ... fuel for the generator ... petrol for the car .... fine Aba made outfits for the wife .... Gucci for the side chicks?

Those bankers you know are contract staff. Currently, no bank pays its entry level staff, aka graduate trainee below 300K per month. So, how would managers not earn more than 200K per month?

Please learn to debate responsibly.

10 years of legal work in any capacity you qualify for pension for life, promptly paid,in ££££ and more than the salary of a fresh graduate.

Unless you are spending naira in the UK, that comparison is baseless!

Honestly, my dad knows a person in this situation.

He earns 1M as salary monthly and also has a side hustle which should be bringing him nothing less than 200k estimate. But the man still wants to leave 4 UK. And getting a job in the UK at the age of around 45+, isn't that almost impossible?

His wife is already there and she's doing care-job.

I still don't understand why he wants to move.

If I ever meet him with my dad before he leaves, I'll tell him "sir, you're making a big mistake!"

Well, he's still agile. I guess that's an advantage.

He's 45+, you say?

Well, he's still younger than me, and people older than me sef still dey jápa. I know a few.

One of them, my former boss, told me to sell my house and move to join him in the UK. Well, he sold his house (well, one of his HOUSES) to make the move.

Personally, I can't see myself selling my property. So I'm still here.

However, things can change.

I just pray it doesn't get to the point I'll decide to leave, because it will be bad indeed.

Stop being ignorant, I work in a multinational bank (Head Office) and earn well above 1m monthly, then you can just imagine what the big guys in higher level earn (DM and above). Except you only associate with contract staff who earn really low. My husband works in tech and earn 7000 USD monthly, you need to associate with young people doing well in their career. I even have a friend who works in oil and gas and earns 70 000 USD yearly as bonus, excluding his salary. The day i saw his bank statement when I was helping him in his visa application, I was surprised. We are all in our early 30's.
