Door Widening Dilemma: Seeking Advice by scottmartin: 2:58am On Mar 29
Hey everyone,

I'm currently facing a bit of a conundrum regarding door widening in my home and could use some advice. I'm considering widening the doorways to improve accessibility, but I'm torn between the cost and the potential disruption it may cause. On one hand, it would make navigating the house much easier for everyone, especially those with mobility aids. On the other hand, the process might be extensive and pricey. Have any of you tackled a similar project before? How did it go, and do you have any tips or insights to share? I'd greatly appreciate any input or experiences you can offer!

Thanks in advance!

First question is how many doorways are you looking at widening?
And the doors you'll be replacing, what are their condition?
Can you re-sell them to cushion the cost of the new ones you are buying?
More importantly, what is the structural implication of widening doorways on the building? I am referring to lintels here. You will be needing new lintels for those doorways. Consider that cost.
