For me, I started with HTML and CSS, then I took an introduction to Computer Science course with Harvard (available on edx) where I learned the basics of C, Python and SQL. After that I took JavaScript and currently learning React. At the same time, I'm also learning data structures and algorithms using C and my next target is C# and the dotnet framework. A lot of people just go with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. And then they pick up MongoDB, Express, React (or Vue or Angular) and Node.js and right now, that field is over saturated. Most beginners run away from things like, Java and C#, that's where you should be heading to; just pick one of them and be very proficient at it

Hmmm. This is so me.

I don’t have a computer science degree. I studied Microbiology but I have this flare for tech, so I started buying courses on Udemy after getting a road map from a friend. I’m doing Frontend first since I’m new to everything but the frontend is so full at the moment.

Html, css, JavaScript - start applying for jobs.

After taking a html/ css course, I took an advanced css course to learn css more as well as SASS. Then I learnt JavaScript- started applying then I knew that I wasn’t ready. Lol

Now I’m learning React.js and I already have courses for MongoDB and Node.

Sometimes I ask myself if these are really programming. The C# and python and the rest; I only know their names but don’t know what they do. I guess not having good info and not a C science student affected me.

Now, to apply for jobs is tiring me cuz I feel I’m not good enough.

What do you suggest I do? The image is the roadmap I plan on following

PS: I’m knowledgeable with html, css and JavaScript that I’ve learnt so far, React is still coming up cuz that’s where I am at now.

This is the same roadmap every beginner have, and in the end everyone ends up with the exact same stack (MERN, MEAN, or MEVN). Supply far outweighs demand and you will struggle a lot to find a job. This path is actually easy and it's why most beginners run to it, so I will suggest you do things differently to give you an edge. I will recommend you to go edx platform and look for Harvard CS50, it's an introduction to computer science course and will teach you basic computer concepts you should know if you were a CS student. They will teach you C and considering your first programming language is JavaScript, you might find it hard to learn C and might even want to give up so many times but I promise you that if you're able to struggle through it, you will start seeing JavaScript in a different light and also find it easier to learn other languages.

That CS50 course will introduce you to data structures and algorithms but you should also go deeper in it using other resources (either video or books). For me, I'm currently using Grokking Algorithms book (PDF available online). After React, I suggest you look into languages most beginners run from, which is either Java or C#. You can still learn nodeJS if you want to, it will be extra work but will be worth it in the end. As it is now, you will have to go the extra mile to be able to survive in this current tech market

Anytime you are about to start C#, please, holla me. Better, I will be following.

The language looks "exciting".

I would like to learn it too.

Thanks.

No problem bro

Not true , it's except if you are not a man

No worries, I have dedicated this year for learning IT skill, and I hope to learn as much as I can

Its exactly why you should learn it. I'm glad that my first programming language is C because it made learning Python and JavaScript so much easier. C is very low level and will teach you how things really work in a computer (memory management and all that) which is something that is heavily abstracted in high level languages like Python and JavaScript
Good man, will check that out as well.

I'm an SE undergraduate, I just recently started learning C# lets connect.

Your inquisitiveness will take us down the rabbit hole on this thread.

When learning CS50, was it the notes you followed or the videos on YouTube?

Well done.

Sure, I already sent you an email. Although I'm not planning on starting C# anytime soon, I'm just started learning React

I used edx website, that's the only way you can get full access to the course resources and the tests, and also get a free certificate after you're done

Thank you so much for your time and suggestions. I really go appreciate and will follow through too. Thank you

The certificate is now pegged at almost $220.

Except it's not the "right place" I visited.

I walked through the website yesterday.

Thanks.

There are 2 certificates, one is free and you get it at the end of the course (certificate of completion) while the other is a verified certificate, which is $219. The free one is from Harvard, while the verified one is from EDX

I now believe 99% of programming jobs are through serious connections. But no one will tell you this all they will brag about is that they have got a job.

If you know what goes on in secret you'll know that only 1% is luck and being good and they can just get rid of the 1% after being used.
