NEW FOUNTAIN SECONDARY SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT 1.0 March 26th 2024.

New Fountain Secondary School Chess Tournament 1.0.

It was a time of fun and mind exercise for the pupils of New Fountain Secondary School, Festac Access Road, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos State on Tuesday 26th March 2024..as they battle among one another in games of chess.

Chess training started in New Fountain School in 2019, but this is the first major chess tournament they will be having in the school.

The thrill and challenge connected with competing in chess tournaments filled up the atmosphere of the school.
It was quite a sight to see the excitement and nervousness some of the pupils displayed after each pairing.

To spice up the event and also to build the pupils' interest in competitive chess, Agoro Timileyin, the current Nigerian National Under-14 Chess Champion, was present at the event.

Lydia Doherty, the head girl of the school assisted in taking the attendance, she also played in the tournament.

It was a Swiss pairing of 5 rounds for every contestant, but unfortunately, only three rounds out of the 5 were completed. In all, the excitement and fun was great.

At the end of the third round, Odinaka Samuel, Omonu Jonathan, Sean Igwilo and Okolo Destiny won all their three games, the four players finished with 3 points out of 3.
Eleven (11) other players were on 2 points while the rest had between 1.5 to 0.5 points.

Interestingly, everyone was a winner, for none of the pupils ended with zero point. It was so much fun.
Pupils that arrived late at the venue after the pairing has been made were not allowed to partake in the event.

After the tournament, Emmanuel Ndong, the head boy, decided to challenge the visiting National Under-14 Chess Champion, Agoro Timileyin.
They played two games, both games ended in favour of Timileyin.
Ndong Emmanuel shook hands with Timileyin, he has learnt a few new tricks from the champion. It was so much fun.

Two teachers, Mr. Princewill and Mrs. Chidinma also engaged in a battle on the board. Mr. Princewill won with a beautiful back row knight checkmate.

A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Amaka Ndidi Nwoko, the principal of the school and also Mrs. Oyenka, the teacher in charge of clubs.

Another big SHOUT OUT TO
