Lagos, Kano, and 10 other states have concluded plans to start generating power in their respective states in conformity with the Electricity Act 2023. See this unserious governors. They have concluded plans? when was the new electricity act passed? If you have just concluded with your plans, then how many years would you take to execute those plans? Wondering when Nigerians would start questioning their state governors same way they have been doing to FG, all this governors are just like P in Psychology 105 Likes 8 Shares |

Many people in urban cities in Nigeria are already on the band A whether they receive up to 10 hrs of electricity per day or not The big shocker will come when everyone is quietly moved to band A. 37 Likes 1 Share |

Only in Nigeria would a government hike electricity tariff without any justifiable reason and people would support them. Take a tour around Lagos; Nigeria's business hub, more than 65% of basic business areas cannot boast of 12 hours electricity. Most small scale businesses are folding up due to high operating cost with almost zero profit. Tinubu's government is working tirelessly to plunge every single Nigerian into abject poverty. That's why they take actions that would drain the finances of the masses. This was how he removed subsidy last year without any plan to cushion the effect on the masses. Up till today, we're still suffering the consequences of his ill convinced plan. Now, they're asking us to pay more for darkness. When you complain, his poverty stricken supporters would tell you that in the USA they pay more for electricity. Forgetting that their minimum wage is about 1.5m while ours is just 30k. APC is a curse to humanity. 55 Likes 8 Shares |

We need to decentralise this country. Until then nothing will give. This new electricity act will be massive and will further show why we need to decentralise. Some governors are just sitting on their hands doing nothing but collecting and looting allocations. 1 Like |

oliverwrites: Decentralization won't solve the problem It costs a lot of money to produce power, to pay for maintenance of power structures like gas generation plants, etc. That is why the power sector has to make a generous profit (yes they made one trillion last year, but as the experts said back in 2016, the sector needs something like 3 trillion yearly for 30 years, plus current debt owed to the gas companies is nearly 2 trillion naira)..which is why it needs to be allowed to set its price. LIke they did in Ivory coast from 1993, which is why the last grid collapse there happened in the eightes. 2 Likes |

Very good move, if removing tariffs helps states to seek funding to generate electricity, then it is a good ripple effect... But will the states subsidize their own electricity? 3 Likes |

Armaggedon:If the other 36 governors we have had since 1999 perform as much as Lagos state governors have performed, Nigeria would be 100% better. People just like taking a go at Lagos state when in actual sense it is the most performing state we have in Nigeria. 6 Likes 1 Share |

helinues:You obviously didn't read the full report. However, I agree on what you said about the state governors are certainly the real problem of Nigeria. People don't demand accountability from their governors and this is a big problem. 3 Likes |
Re: 12 States Plan Power Projects, Anger Spreads Over Tariff Hike by nairalanda1(m): 6:52am On Apr 05 |
oliverwrites: I have modified my post, but again, I would state that the problem with the sector is it cannot make enough profit for its needs (yes, they made 1 trillion last year, nice...meanwhile they owe gas companies 1.7 trillion naira, plus we need something like 3 trillion naira annually for 30 years before we see 24 hour light everywhere).....and that can only be achieved via cost reflective tarrifs. Ivory coast is a good example. Egypt, that Obi went to, removed power subsides, and things improved. 2 Likes |
