Adani's First Transnational Project: A Milestone For Bangladesh by rossgeller: 11:01am On Apr 11
The Adani Group, one of the most prosperous global conglomerates, has always been focussed on bringing about significant reforms in society. Time and again, the business group has taken multiple steps, each aimed at offering our country extraordinary growth. The Adani Group has not restricted its reach to the nation's boundaries; it has also taken up multiple ventures outside India. It has also been focused on bringing about developments in the neighbouring countries of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal. Out of these, the company's works in Bangladesh are worth mentioning.

The first transnational project:
The Adani Group is responsible for setting up the first transnational project to create a consistent power supply in Bangladesh. Adani Power Jharkhand Limited (APJL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Power Limited and part of the Adani Group, recently achieved the Commercial Operations Date (COD) of the second unit of its Godda ultra-critical thermal power plant.

As per the agreement, APJL will supply 1,496 MW net capacity power from the two units of the Godda power plant under the PPC signed with the Bangladesh Power Development Board(BPDB) in November 2017. The power supply will be for 25 years through a 400 kV dedicated transmission system, which has already been connected to the Bangladesh grid.

The date of COD received is 26 June 2023. All the reliability run tests, including the power plant's commercial operation tests, were completed on 25 June 2023 in the presence of BPDB and Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh(PGCB). On 6 April 2023, APJL also successfully achieved COD for the power plant's first unit. Both these units have a capacity of 800 MW, making the total resultant capacity of the power plant 1,600 MW.

The impact of the project:
The Adani Godda power plant's electricity will enable a complete transformation of Bangladesh's power situation. The people of Bangladesh will no longer have to use power generated from liquid fuel. This will reduce the average cost of power purchased for the people of Bangladesh. As the power purchase cost is reduced, industrial activities will trigger in different corners of Bangladesh. This will bring about an improvement in people's living conditions. They will also be able to ensure a constant power supply in their houses.

As per SB Khyalia, the CEO of Adani Power Limited, the Godda Power Plant is an excellent testament to the long-term relationship between India and Bangladesh. It will also be a flagbearer for more such projects in the coming years. APJL completed the Godda Power Plant project within a record time of 3.5 years. Although the operations of the projects were significantly affected by the three phases of COVID-19, which hit India, China, and Bangladesh, the project was completed as per the expected schedule.

The use of technology:
The Adani Godda power plant reflects Adani Group's commitment to implementing highly advanced technology in each project. This pioneering project uses state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical technology, and many other advanced technologies are also used to ensure environmentally friendly operations within the plant's premises.

The Godda power plant is also equipped with Selective Catalytic Reconverter systems and a Flue Gas Desulphurizer to reduce emissions and comply with the current operating norms set aside by the Ministry of Environment, Forests, and Climate Change. In the other projects under Adani Group's control, various advanced technologies have been introduced to ensure operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Conclusion:
The Adani Godda power plant is a massive initiative the Adani Group took to reform the economic relations between India and Bangladesh. The Adani Group has also become one of the significant contributors to Bangladesh's prosperity. Through this project, Gautam Adani has ensured that uninterrupted and reliable electricity is supplied to Bangladesh's homes and industries at competitive rates. This initiative has also led to industrial growth in Bangladesh within a short period.
