Football is like the movie industry where the actors are the visible ones even though we have the directors, producers, camera men and many more. In football, apart from the players and the coaches we see on the field and screen, we also have the AGENTS who are working behind the scenes to make sure a player gets transferred from one club to another. Cristiano Ronaldo is worth over 500million dollars and he is 200 million pounds richer than the biggest agent (Jorge Mendes) in the world. The beautiful thing about an agent is the longevity. An agent can work till he/she is very old. He/She can even have an agency company that can outlive him/her, unlike in football where a player can not be very active in his 40’s. Whenever a player or a manager ..yes manager too, gets transferred or whenever they renew their contract, an agent just got about 10 percent or any negotiated percentage of the whole deal. So the question is: HOW DO YOU BECOME AN AGENT? This is what we are about to tell you!

The first step is to write an application to be a football agent letter addressed to the Nigerian Football Federation, attach some documents like your payment slip (An application amount paid to the NFF account: the fee and account is subject to the administration on board, you can find out from the NFF office closest to you) and other documents like your date of birth, state of origin, and other academic and non academic certificates. First leaving certificate is enough.

The NFF will send your name to the NDLEA, EFCC, CPC and other Bureaus to check if you have been involved in any drug related or fraudulent cases prior to your application. You will be invited for an exam if you scale through the background check hurdle.


EXAMINATION PROCEDURE ACCORDING TO ARTICLE 8 OF FIFA STATUS

If your application satisfies the relevant prerequisites, the Nigerian Football Federation will
invite you to take a written examination. The NFF may hold examinations twice a year in the months of March and September. The exact dates shall be determined by FIFA in January and June of each year. The examination is organised by the NFF in Abuja and held under the general supervision of FIFA. The examination shall be set as a multiple-choice test. You are considered to have passed the examination if you attain the minimum mark set by FIFA.

You will be tested on the following subjects:
a) knowledge of the current football regulations, especially in connection with transfers (the statutes and regulations of FIFA, the confederations and the association in whose country the applicant is taking the examination);

b) knowledge of civil law (basic principles of personal rights) and the law of obligations (law of contract).


6. Each examination shall consist of twenty questions, fifteen on international regulations and five on national regulations.You will have between 60 and 90 minutes to complete the examination. FIFA is responsible for the setting of the the minimum mark required to pass the examination. Each correct answer shall be awarded one point only.

If you fail to attain the minimum mark, you may apply to retake the examination on the next available date if you wish.

If you fail on the third attempt, you may not take the exam again for another two years Your results will come out on or before six months.

If you pass the written examination, the NFF shall request you to conclude a professional liability insurance in your own name with a reputable insurance company in Nigeria. The insurance shall adequately cover any risks that may arise from your activities.
