• Inducts new students into engineering community
As part of activities marking the NUESA week, the students of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, on Friday, 12th April, 2024 held the 2nd edition of the Nigerian Universities Engineering Students Association (NUESA) Week, with the theme ‘’Engineering Innovation for More Resilient World’’, aimed at inspiring innovative solutions to global challenges.
The two-day event which started on Thursday, 11th to Friday, 12th April, 2024, commenced with different activities ranging from field visits, debates, quiz competitions as well as paper presentations, where participants from various Engineering departments showcased their knowledge and skills.

Delivering the keynote speech of the event titled ‘’Engineering Innovation for More Resilient world’’, the Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Engr. Prof. Charles Ezugwu emphasized the theme’s importance in shaping a resilient future, stressing that innovation is important in the field of Engineering as it drives progress and helps engineers develop new solutions to complex problems. He enjoined the students to appreciate the importance of innovation to enable them compete globally.
He equally noted that Engineers play a crucial role in addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges, from climate change to infrastructural development through resource management and sustainability, adding that as students, they are expected to start now to learn how to develop new ideas towards solving engineering and other societal problems.

Ezugwu speaking further, maintained that as we face uncertainty globally, engineers should play the role of creating a sustainable, resilient and equitable world in foreseeing and fulfilling the needs for the future in a sustainable manner.
He thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sunday Elom for the opportunity to hold the event, while appreciating the students for organizing the program, assuring them of his continuous fatherly advice and assistance.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Chime Chinonso, who spoke on the intersection of entrepreneurship and technology, charged the students to harness their engineering skills for entrepreneurial ventures. He advised them to be focused on their studies and to adopt the use of artificial intelligence to maximize their potentials.
He equally enjoined them to imbibe the power of friendship and inter-connectivity, as that is the only way to go far in life, stressing that greater is achieved when you are in a team.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the President of NUESA, AE-FUNAI Chapter, Comrade Agba Augustine, noted that the 2nd edition of the NUESA week and Technical Exhibition marked a significant milestone in promoting engineering excellence and innovation, adding that the event underscored the vibrant spirit and collective efforts of the engineering community in shaping a more resilient world through innovation and collaboration.
He expressed gratitude to his team and participants for their support in making the event a reality, while extolling the Dean of the faculty and the Vice-Chancellor, for their unwavering support and approval of the event.
He highlighted some activities the students embarked on during the NUESA week to include technical visit and excursion which gave the students the opportunity to visit the school’s solar plant station and First Patriot Limited, gaining practical insights into real-world engineering applications, sporting activities to promote physical fitness and teamwork among participants, debate and quiz competitions to enrich the understanding of engineering principles and concepts, amongst others.

Highlights of the event was the induction of 100 and 200 levels Engineering students into the Engineering community by the NUESA President, AE-FUNAI Chapter, Comrade Agba Augustine, presentation of medals to departments with the highest score, presentation of trophy to the department that won in football tournament and presentation of portrait to the Faculty Dean in appreciation of his sterling leadership.
