A RARE GEM

born into the loving embrace of the Akawo Ocholi family of the (Aju Ocholi family)
in 1941, late Air Cdre Joseph Abalaka Akawo rtd, was a
beacon of strength and wisdom. He was raised by the
family of Adaji in Okpotala who was his guardians, cherished
him as their own and made him their first born, Joseph's
journey was one of resilience and grace.
From his humble beginnings in (Benue river; Benue/plateau)
now Kogi State, he embarked on a path marked by determination
and faith.
His education began in Ankpa LGA, where he completed
his primary school. Guided by a thirst for learning, he ventured
to BSS Gindiri, Benue/Plateau State for his secondary
education emerging in 1964 as a testament to his academic
prowess. Yet, amidst the demands of duty and family, Joseph
found solace in the arms of Christ. In 1960, amidst the hallowed
halls of Gindiri, he surrendered his life to the Lord, igniting a
flame of faith that would never dim. Joining the Air Force in
July 1965, Joseph soared to new heights, both in the skies and
in his personal life. In the line of duty, He was Acting Governor
for Plateau State in (1983-1985), *Station Commander NAF Jos
(1983-1985),He was the commander of the Nigerian Air Defence
Corp (Head of all Nigerian Airports i.e both domestic and
international airports, from 1985 to 1988), He was base
commander of the Nigerian Airforce base (LEGCO) Ikeja at
the same time a member of the Lagos State executive council
(1988-1991) and three(3) times Director of Admin in the NAF
HQ until he retired in 1997 as an Air Commodore, he held
his last office in service as the Director Air Faculty in Command and Staff College Jaji, Kaduna State.
